keep doubting when I see a deal pop up on these. Lots of reviews on Costco saying these didn't last long/failed pretty quickly. Anyone have any counter to that?

Warning: I got a new set to replace my 10+ year old set when sub foam deteriorated. The sound quality is not comparable; the old ones (different amp/sub) sound dramatically better. I am going to try to re-foam or replace the sub in the old set and give these to someone.

Mine are in storage now, but I got them in 2015 I think for regular price. I got a remote plug switch like others here and had a Chromecast Audio plugged into the aux in. It was easy cheaper than a Sonos. I received many noise complaints from the apartment below. I purchased an extended warranty from Squaretrade at the time just in case but never needed to use it.

For Californian, it is better to order from Amazon because they charge taxes on the original prices. With Amazon you will pay $79.99 plus taxes for $105.91 versus Costco $79.99 plus taxes for $129.99. On the other hand, Costco offers better warranty I think. 🤷🏻
The tax rate rate is based on the city you live in. I paid $6.20 for tax in SoCal. I get dinged more for tax in Sacramento.

i used to have the first generation or so of this… not sure if build quality was different but they were pretty amazing. the tiny fuse kept popping was the only issue. had to replace maybe 4 times then the fourth time it lasted forever.

btw saw these at my local walmart for $69 but might be a YMMV. i'm all earphones now though especially being in our bedroom

Anecdotal, but my mother has had them in their house for probably 15 years, and I've had mine for well over 10, and neither of us have had a single issue. Mine is a slightly revised model which I think is the one they are still using. And I've definitely not been particularly easy on them. For the longest time we both had them standing alone and connected to an Apple AirPort Express so we could stream music to them, and it was wonderful.

I'd still buy them. Especially at this price.

Great speakers, but a somewhat related opinion:

Don't listen to people on the internet when they say something like "these are good speakers, but not as good as a pair I bought 10 years ago".

There's some weird kind of audiophile vintage nostalgia know-it-all psychology going on there that seems to be extremely common regardless of which speakers we're discussing or which decade we're in. You'll hear it a lot in speaker related forums, best to ignore it.

How do people deal with lack of power button?

And I would love a desktop puck control with headphone jack. Are there anything people recommend for that with these?
When I hibernate/put to sleep/shut down my pc, the speakers shut down as well.

With Costco, your speakers can break after a decade from now and you can bring them in and get your money back. Good luck doing that after a month with Amazon...
