The Docsis 3.0 vs 3.1 only plays a role between the modem and the ISP's servers, it will dictate how fast the connection can be in that segment.
Between the modem and the router, the ethernet protocol will dictate the speed, it will depend on the best speed both the modem and router can handle and successfully negotiate when you first plug in the cable.
between the router and your wifi device, the wifi connection is what dictates the speed, again both items need to have the latest technology, in this case wifi 6, to take advantage of it successfully, otherwise they negotiate the best alternative that they both support.

When you're trying to use your connection to get to the internet, let's say to download a big file, you will need all pieces to work properly and at their best speeds, if any segment from the ones described above is weak, it will be the limiting factor of how fast you can download that file.

For example, if you only subscribe/pay for a 200 mbps connection with your ISP, having a modem that can handle 5gbps or a wifi 6 router that can hand 1200mbps is not going to help you much, your speed to download that file will always be limited to 200 mbps.

There are many other scenarios where you could still use wifi 6 in-house even if your ISP connection is slow. I still think this gizmo @ $50 is a good deal, and might get it myself.

Bought it and I like it - no issues so far. I'm not sure if this is how this is supposed to work, but when I do the speedtest through Spectrum's website, it says max download of 125 Mbps, yet when I do it through the Netgear app, it says 250 Mbps.

Either way, having wifi 6 is a definite upgrade over the router I got from Spectrum.
Use the speedtest app on your PC or on the phone. The browser has plugins and other optimizations that make it never show the right speed. Always used the app on the phone or the speedtest app on the PC (wired or wireless) and it will show the true speed.

Can you set this router to only 2.4 band? I'd like to have another router besides my Orbi for my IoT devices that only utilize 2.4

Is this better then the Netgear Nighthawk R6700v2? Some of my devices (security cameras, Roku, etc.) keeps getting disconnected from my 2.4Ghz band. Restarting my router would solve the connection issues only temporarily and would eventually disconnect again. I dont know if its the router crapping out or its because i have too many devices connected to the 2.4ghz band (over 30 devices) Is it a worthy upgrade? or should i look eslewhere.

If your using wifi 6 gear yes a slight advantage, if your still primarily a wifi 5 house hold keep holding off.
Thanks! Yeah we just have 2 smartphones (N20 Ultra/iPhone X Pro), eufy Cam system, a couple smart TV's, and just a few home automation things (garage, Nest).

I'm not well versed in WiFi 6 knowledge so I appreciate your response! I've been eyeing WiFi 6/Mesh systems just because of coverage (2 story, 3k sq/ft home)

I don't have wifi 6 devices. Should I replace my T-Mobile (AC-1900) with this one? Thank you

while it's nice it's Wifi6, it doesn't sound like it has a very strong signal and I'd prefer to wait for the imminent wifi6e routers

6E is already out, good luck affording it unless you got around $500 to spend. On top of that no 6e clients exist so your not getting any use out of the band. 6e will be great, but in like 2-3 years also when it should become finally affordable.

No clients? I installed an Intel AX210 on my new Asrock itx motherboard and it is ready when tp-link and others release more reasonably prices 6e routers. I'm expecting that to happen this September.

Not sure I will buy TP-link versus another brand, but am expecting 6e routers rollout to be relatively soon.

Only get mesh if you have a legit coverage problem, if you dont have coverage issues, having too many nodes/AP's in one spot can be a nightmare. Even if your getting 2-3 bars some place thats still plenty for just about anything from a single router perspective.

There are some passive benefits to wifi 6 even if you dont have wifi 6 devices, but if your honestly not currently have any issues probably not worth it. This is such a basic looking router and I have a hard time recommending something that no one will professional review. Thats why bare minimum I would go with the TP-Link AX21 if looking for entry level wifi 6.

That is hard to answer without a lot of troubleshooting, if is just recently happening and its only on the same few devices, it could be that a neighbor bought a new router and is interfering with your wifi. If its been like this since day one, could be a setting issue with smart connect enabled. Yes there is still a chance that the router is just going bad, without a lot more troubleshooting hard to be sure, as for 30 devices most of these routers should be able to handle that device count so that probably is not it. This seems like a good deal on a wifi 6 router, but I honestly have never used it and I have not seen any reviews to state it, so hard to recommend it. Can always take a shot and see what happens.

You see how you had to buy your own card and install it, that means your computer client didnt have it hence it did not exist. I never said there are no add on client cards, but straight out of the factory nothing is coming with 6E besides maybe the latest the smart phone not sure would have to check on that.

Affordable and by September I doubt we will see anything under $300 anytime in the next year!

This is bogus, browsers don't have plugins or optimizations that would impact a decently written speed test. Speed tests in browsers are java or flash apps that create direct data connections to servers to assure good upload and download data irrespective of the HTTP protocols (unless used as fallbacks). Optimizations and plugins for caching etc wouldn't impact this.
