The batteries on these are just golf cart batteries. You don't have to get them from a proprietary vendor. A huge advantage when these die. Leoch LPC12-75

3 years ago, we bought the 100Ah version of this, without the bagger. 3 years later, we still love it. We have 1.5 acres that are mowable, and we still have 35-40% battery left. All our yard equipment is now ryobi battery, except for the garden tiller.

I think it means the batteries still have juice after mowing that big yard, not the overall battery condition.

3 years ago, we bought the 100Ah version of this, without the bagger. 3 years later, we still love it. We have 1.5 acres that are mowable, and we still have 35-40% battery left. All our yard equipment is now ryobi battery, except for the garden tiller.

Gotcha. I read that wrong, thought it was capacity left. My long term concern is about the battery capacity degradation and cost to replace batteries few years down the road.

EGO ztr has many 1-2 star reviews of the system not even being able to mow 1 acre.

I searched around briefly and can't find the replacement pack. Ryobi's own parts website shows it as out of stock and doesn't list a price. Was able to find the battery for the much smaller push mower, it's $200-300 depending on where you shop.

Nice, good to know. Looks like 100Ah batteries run about $200 a piece and you'd need 4 of them. A steep price to pay but hopefully they last 4-5 years. I'm certain it's still cheaper than EGO's typical proprietary battery packs. I love my EGO blower and trimmer but $250 for a single battery when the current ones finally die is going to hurt.

Yeah, the EGO batteries for their zero turn are $450 each and it uses 4-6 of them and they are out of stock at Lowes. At least I know I can get batteries for this from alibaba or upgrade to LiFePO4 when the time comes and lead acid is no longer made.

I was eyeing the 54" version of this. The battery life has me wondering though. If they last 5 years it should cost about the same maintenance as a gas mower. However Ryobi only gives a 1 year battery warranty. If they don't trust their batteries to last longer then why should I? Replacement batteries would cost around $1k. Takes 4 and I saw $250 price but everywhere is out of stock.

The ego seems more safe due to having been in the battery biz for a while and they warranty the batteries to 5 years. However it has the stamped deck, only small size, and replacement batteries are $1800.

Given the info I've learned I'm going to go with a heavy duty gas mower this fall. I have a 7 year old Husqvarna and it has gotten beat up by my country acres.

Edit: Just looked up golf cart batteries. They say should last 4-6 years. Can last longer for private buyers due to less use. Which tells me the bigger yard to have the shorter life span it will have.
