The batteries on these are just golf cart batteries. You don't have to get them from a proprietary vendor. A huge advantage when these die. Leoch LPC12-75

3 years ago, we bought the 100Ah version of this, without the bagger. 3 years later, we still love it. We have 1.5 acres that are mowable, and we still have 35-40% battery left. All our yard equipment is now ryobi battery, except for the garden tiller.

I think it means the batteries still have juice after mowing that big yard, not the overall battery condition.

I'll start by saying I'm almost all in on battery electric for non typical items. I have a battery electric push mower for hard to get to areas, battery weed wacker and they are both fantastic. My daily driver is also Model 3, but when doing research on Zero turn lawn mowers I stuck with gas. The Ego seems to be the best reviewed, but never goes on sale and is almost always out of stock. $5k is a lot, especially when comparing what you get with its gas counterparts.

Last week I pulled the trigger on the Toro Timecutter 50in with MyRide and couldn't be happier with it for $3599. Also highest ranked by Consumer Reports.

Thanks, Toro came up frequently in my search as a top mower. It's coming down to how much I want to spend and what service places are close. Toro would be a good 20 min away. There is a grasshopper dealer close with great reviews but that is the other end of the $$$ train.

I've had a battery kobalt weed eater for at least 6 years that's great. Then got the matching pole saw. Great to interchange batteries. Like you though I don't think mowers are there yet.

A cheap gas riding mower is $1000. This costs $1000 every five years in maintenance for batteries alone.

I ordered the 100ah and bagger in March, waited over a month for it to arrive. The website said it arrived, I kept calling and getting blown off. I finally went to the store and someone finally looked and it wasn't there. Six weeks after I ordered they couldn't find it. I cancelled and went to lowes and bought a John Deere zero turn in stock and I'm happy with it. Home Depot is a joke, unless its in stock have fun waiting. The product itself seems solid though some people are having battery issues after only a year.

You can't find a riding mower for $1k anymore, they mostly seem to be about $1500.

Lead acid batteries begin to degrade (actually build sulfur deposits on the plates) immediately when the voltage drops under 12V. If stored under 12v for a week or two like just parking the mower without plugging it in after mowing), the batteries capacity will become less, then when people don't know this, they continuously do it, and batteries last those people a year or two. If you keep them topped up after a mow, and once every few weeks just top them off, or keep a trickle charger on them (not sure if RYOBI has this standard) then they will easily last 5+ years. That being said I bought an ENCORE zero turn which has been fantastic, but had this been out when I bought the ENCORE, I would have went RYOBI. Now if you want to strictly go by cost, the gas and oil changes should be close to the same cost of the electric. If you get an electric mower for the cost savings, you are doing it wrong. It is way quieter, the fuel is electrons which are available in 99%+ of American households, and the maintenance is limited to tires, greasing a few spots, and sharpening the blades. The maintenance on a gas is the same, PLUS air filter, oil changes, belts, holy sh*t if the hydrostatic drives have a problem and the hundreds of moving parts in and around the engine.

Just bit on the EGO a few weeks ago and awaiting delivery. When researching things last year ran into mixed reviews on the ryobi, though have done well with their battery tools. However, as absurd as the cost was for the ZTR, have loved EGOs performance and simplicity since I started with their 20in, non-propelled mower (which I snagged from SD a few years ago,) so much so that all the lawn kit is now EGO, and I'm very tempted to jump in on one of their snow blowers if I find them on sale. This is a good deal, OP, and the SDer in me feels like I should cancel the EGO order and go with this, but I feel like the EGO will prove to be the right choice in the long run (but we'll see where things stand after a year of abuse). Reps for the find OP.

Hey, thanks so much for that info.

FYI, the lawn/garden guy at my local Home Depot told me recently (about 3 weeks ago) that HD had already made the corporate decision late last year, to completely drop the EGO brand entirely from all of their stores, as well as hd.com.

He said if I actually see any EGO stuff for sale in a Home Depot store, it'll likely be 'old' 2020 year (or even older) stock & that it also 'should' have a variable clearance price on it (mileage always varies on clearance as we all on know).

So... can anyone confirm perhaps that what that guy told me is right (or partially right). I was thinking that even if they stopped selling the equipment, they still sell the batteries, at least for a year or two, IMHO.

Anyway, he's been a pretty reliable information source for years in regard to HD (he's been at my local HD for 7+ years), but I was hoping some of you folks out there could at least weigh in on the 'no more EGO at Home Depot' concept.

And I can also confirm that I no longer see any EGO equipment on sale at 3 of my local Home Depot stores, so... sadly, he might be right. : (

Also, he also thinks EGO may now be a 'Lowes exclusive brand'. But that, I kinda doubt. However, he again, could be 100% accurate again.

I've had three same residential Craftsman lawn tractor for over 20+ years. No zero turn. Buy a couple quarts of oil, filters, sharpen some blade every spring and remove the battery in the winter but most of all I avoid driving in reverse. I've had to replace the mulching discharge cover and the gas tank pierced by a large sick. All my neighbors have these zero turns now and are done mowing in a fraction the time. I've wanted a zero turn for years and now they seem to be going electric is even more enticing. But I'm sceptical about your break even cost of maintenance. Small engines need a little TLC and they will last. However, I have burned through several electrical equipment. From electric chain saws to electric pressure washers, Releasing the magic smoke seems more frequent the gas engines dying. This is my experience. For what it's worth.
