Is there a particular reason anyone would pay this price for a laptop without a discrete graphics card? Is there a functionality or feature set I'm not aware of?

Very likely it's simply different use cases. Most laptops with discrete graphics cards are well over 2.56 lbs, which this model is. With Iris Xe graphics, this can definitely handle plenty of games on low or even medium settings as well. Integrated graphics have come a long way.

Thanks I'm looking for something for my living room that can handle indie games of somewhat medium to low intensity. Been trying to find something in the 500 to 750 range but maybe something like this wouldn't be a bad buy because it has a hard drive and RAM requirements I'd like

Any other difference besides the screen?

There are people that don't need discrete graphics and willing to pay for build quality etc. Look no further than Thinkpad X1.

I would avoid this one. I've had it for a month and have had the screen replaced once for a dead pixel. The day after the screen was replaced I noticed another dead pixel. Not going to have the screen replaced for a second time but going to return it. It's my first PC in over 8 years and I went for the XPS bc of supposedly excellent build quality, which isn't the case for the screen. The concept of the touchscreen is great but my experience was not. I would avoid this. I am going back to Apple.
Sorry for your incident. I've got a lucky one.

It's what ultrabooks go for. There was a time where MacBooks were an awful value proposition but these days they actually offer a better value than ultrabooks like the XPS 13, especially now with the M1 CPU. I wasn't impressed with the Intel Tiger Lake CPU and went with an M1 Mac. Hate on macOS or Apple if you want to but it sips power and still outperforms like this XPS 13, while costing about the same (with the same SSD and RAM config)
