I've been eyeing this garage door for awhile and it's finally on sale. Normally $245, now 20% off for $195 with free shipping or free store pick up. This garage door is CA compliant since it has a backup battery.

I also got the professional installation for an additional $87. Also not a bad deal considering quotes I got from contractors were $150 to $200 just for install.

Amazon also has the same garage door for the same price https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075CQ86ZV/ Expired

Others are reporting you can purchase installation only through this link: https://www.homedepot.com/c/cost_install_repair_garage_doors_openers?cm_mmc=hsem-cg-faq [homedepot.com]

HD contracts out to 3rd party installers. The installation includes:

Installation Process
After your order has been confirmed, one of our professionals will call you within two business day to schedule a date and time for installation.
*Pricing subject to change due to increased scope of work or required code regulations
Price Includes
Removing and hauling away old garage door opener
Installing new customer supplied garage door opener
Installing new motion sensors
Testing new garage door opener and cleaning up debris
Price includes install for Garage Doors up to 8 ft. tall

I ordered on 21st, shipped & delivered on 22nd and installed today!

CA requires a back-up battery because of wild fires. If you need to evacuate quickly, you'll want to use your car. Some people may only have an accessible car in the garage but if the power is out, how will they open the garage open? Yes, there's the emergency cord to manually open and close the door. But not many know about it, know how to operate it or even have the strength to operate it. Imagine your elderly parents in a panic trying to evacuate quickly and but don't have arm strength to pull on the emergency cord or not tall enough or the car is in the way of getting access to it. Then the real panic and irrational thinking starts to set in. But if the garage door can operate with just a backup battery in case of emergency, that's a great peace of mind to have for a little extra $. CA firefighters have found people who died in their garage trying to get out, especially the elderly. Hence the CA law requires backup battery.
Until your power goes out. It's my main entrance to my house. Power goes off while I am not there it gets tricky. It's happened more than once here in the midwest
I think they're being technically proper is all it is: horsepower is always an equivalency measurement. The power of motor "X" is equivalent to "Y" horsepower - which is a measurement devised by James Watt to compare steam engines to work previously done by horses.

Hi OP, this is very interesting. How do you get the professional installation for $87 on the Home Depot website?

[Update 1] I've found the $87 offer and people have linked to it below but here it is again as I am the 1st reply: https://www.homedepot.com/service...5wBsSMQX80

[Update 2] Has anyone used Home Depot (HD) installation services before? Is it an HD employee or a 3rd party coming over? I am considering getting more installation done from them, but might not want to buy the material from HD if I can find it cheaper elsewhere. Do they check that indeed it was purchase via HD?

Go to the services menu, installation, garage door. Scroll down and there is a link to an $87 special on opener installation.

thanks! I had to buy some extras (new home installation kit and 8foot extension), but this price with installation ends up being the same price my contractor would have charged me for a much better opener.

Just wanted to chime in. I got this regular price about 8 months ago, didn't want to wait for a deal when the old one broke, and have been really happy with it. Install took a couple hours between removing the old broken one and rerunning wires since the old one had the wires within the track.

Its not the chain or belt that wears out first. Its the cheap nylon/plastic gears they use in the drive mechanisms these days. If the door spring is counter balanced correctly chain or belt makes no difference except for noise. I opened mine and it was full of gear shavings from normal wear. Either that or the control board craps out. Either way its cheaper to replace the whole thing than fix it. Battery backup is just another maintenace problem down the road when the battery craps out.
