I've been eyeing this garage door for awhile and it's finally on sale. Normally $245, now 20% off for $195 with free shipping or free store pick up. This garage door is CA compliant since it has a backup battery.

I also got the professional installation for an additional $87. Also not a bad deal considering quotes I got from contractors were $150 to $200 just for install.

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Chamb...67#overlay

Amazon also has the same garage door for the same price https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075CQ86ZV/ Expired

Others are reporting you can purchase installation only through this link: https://www.homedepot.com/c/cost_install_repair_garage_doors_openers?cm_mmc=hsem-cg-faq [homedepot.com]

HD contracts out to 3rd party installers. The installation includes:

CA requires a back-up battery because of wild fires. If you need to evacuate quickly, you'll want to use your car. Some people may only have an accessible car in the garage but if the power is out, how will they open the garage open? Yes, there's the emergency cord to manually open and close the door. But not many know about it, know how to operate it or even have the strength to operate it. Imagine your elderly parents in a panic trying to evacuate quickly and but don't have arm strength to pull on the emergency cord or not tall enough or the car is in the way of getting access to it. Then the real panic and irrational thinking starts to set in. But if the garage door can operate with just a backup battery in case of emergency, that's a great peace of mind to have for a little extra $. CA firefighters have found people who died in their garage trying to get out, especially the elderly. Hence the CA law requires backup battery.
Until your power goes out. It's my main entrance to my house. Power goes off while I am not there it gets tricky. It's happened more than once here in the midwest
This is what I use to install mine https://youtu.be/ekPy7w9UIdY

The most damage from earthquakes isn't the quake itself. The fires resulting from the quake are much more damaging. They're caused by broken gas lines, downed power lines, etc. Different source, same result.

At the rate and severity of CA wildfires, the chance that someone will be affected by one during their lifetime may exceed 77% https://static.slickdealscdn.com/images/smilies/eek.gif
Wildfire covers about 4% of CA land, mostly in the wild where very few people live (hence "wildfire"). I double it would get to 77% or even remotely close. Again, numbers are important.

Blahhh was looking to replace my chain drive with this belt drive but as luck would have it my torsion spring broke (Wayne Dalton Torque master thingy) and so will have to shell out for that instead of this unit Frown. Got someone to come in for $350 but will convert it to suspended springs?

Tension springs for the garage door are simple to replace. I just did mine. Mine had two springs which cost around $80 for the pair on amazon. Plenty of youtube videos on how to do it. I should start installing these as a side hustle. $350 is a joke.

Sooooo, yes you are right and little did I know but now I DO and since I have 2 doors I can possibly do this on my own on the other side.

I have whats called a Torquemaster Bar (Spring was in the bar) and replacing that was more expensive. The guy that came was really professional and yes it was a $325 "Conversion" to tension springs.

Watching the videos and watching him do it plus the cost of the product listed here: https://www.amazon.com/product-re...ilter-bar; I think I might attempt it for the second door lol.

With the side that broke being heavily used I couldn't wait to get my education up and shopping but totally agree with the point above!

Just had this installed by Home Depot 3rd party this morning. Super quiet compared to my old Genie screw drive, but the range on the remotes is horrible. I'm not sure if there's some interference somewhere or if something else is wrong and will need to do some troubleshooting later.

It works most of the time from within the garage, but step outside and I have trouble opening/closing. The wireless keypad right outside the garage has troubles as well.

My old opener was one that still used dip switches, not sure what frequency it was, but it worked at the street when I pulled up to the house.

That sucks, that doesn't seem right. Is the yellow wire near the light bulb sticking out? My installer said to leave out as it transmitter for the remotes. I have no idea if that's true or not.

Contact the 3rd party installer again, they should have some kind of warranty on the install. Mine has 30 days.

Check the sensor wire on the opener. You can bend a little and move where visible.

LED lights close by to the garage door opener can/will reduce the effective range of garage door remotes.

I checked the bulbs earlier. One side is CFL from old opener, the other side looks like old school incandescent bulb. Looks like he broke the other CFL light that was in the old opener. The yellow antenna cable hangs about 6" - 7" straight down. I might try extending that to see what happens.

Normally I think CA regulations are screwy. But this one I happen to agree with. Not only for wildfires as mentioned, but also earthquakes. A major quake can knock out power to a large region for days or weeks.
As someone who's live in CA for more than 40 years, this is nonsense. I've never experienced a power outage due to an earthquake. And if I do? I'll pop the latch and open the farkin' door. If someone's too old an/or feeble then the onus is on them to get a battery backup, NOT on the state to mandate MILLIONS of people be protected from a pretend threat. (Like cutting power due to "high winds" to prevent fires that won't happen.)

I bought one of these about a year ago (without battery backup) and I LOVE it!

There are just some fantastic things about this opener!!!
  1. Chamberlain's tech support is the best there is. They are super-experts on garage doors and they'll help you with every little detail of installation.
  2. It's not difficult to install, at least if you're replacing an existing opener. If you need a whole new garage door, that's a different story of course.
  3. It will alert your smartphone if the garage door has been left open more than 15 minutes.
  4. You can close the garage door from anywhere in the world. You never need to worry that your garage door was left open, you can just check from your smart phone app.
  5. It comes with everything: Two openers for the car, the panel for inside your garage, which includes a motion sensor that turns on the lights automatically, and the panel for outside your garage door that opens the garage using a code.
  6. It works with the openers built-into most cars.
  7. It's VERY quiet. Unbelievable how much quieter it is than my old chain drive opener.
  8. Amazon can deliver inside my garage, so no more package thefts! And you get a $30 credit from Amazon for trying this feature. It's called Amazon Key.

Same! B980 in September 2018 for $85 after military discount. One of the best scores of the year. Did a self-install-- still running great.
I just had that installed from the same deal. Wish I would have done it sooner. I finally got tired of moving the box around in the garage.

Not sure what's going on. I was able to sync the Homelink remote on my car. This remote seems to work from a house down the street. It's just the 2 remotes and the wireless keypad that seem to have issues.

I tried a working battery from old remote in the new one. Same result. Range is super small. Seems to work all the time if I stand directly under the opener, otherwise its intermittent, even inside the garage.

Give Chamberlain a call. Their customer service is pretty good.

I picked up the Genie 7155l-tkv Costco a couple weeks back when it was on sale… Have not used it yet but debating if I should stick with the genie or go with this… Any input? Pro cons?

I bought that one too after debating "Genie 7155" vs "Chamberlain B970". They seem very comparable. Costco warranty for something like this item puts me at ease.
