I've been eyeing this garage door for awhile and it's finally on sale. Normally $245, now 20% off for $195 with free shipping or free store pick up. This garage door is CA compliant since it has a backup battery.

I also got the professional installation for an additional $87. Also not a bad deal considering quotes I got from contractors were $150 to $200 just for install.

CA requires a back-up battery because of wild fires. If you need to evacuate quickly, you'll want to use your car. Some people may only have an accessible car in the garage but if the power is out, how will they open the garage open? Yes, there's the emergency cord to manually open and close the door. But not many know about it, know how to operate it or even have the strength to operate it. Imagine your elderly parents in a panic trying to evacuate quickly and but don't have arm strength to pull on the emergency cord or not tall enough or the car is in the way of getting access to it. Then the real panic and irrational thinking starts to set in. But if the garage door can operate with just a backup battery in case of emergency, that's a great peace of mind to have for a little extra $. CA firefighters have found people who died in their garage trying to get out, especially the elderly. Hence the CA law requires backup battery.
Until your power goes out. It's my main entrance to my house. Power goes off while I am not there it gets tricky. It's happened more than once here in the midwest
This is what I use to install mine https://youtu.be/ekPy7w9UIdY

I picked up the Genie 7155l-tkv Costco a couple weeks back when it was on sale… Have not used it yet but debating if I should stick with the genie or go with this… Any input? Pro cons?
I bought 2 of the Genie's from Coscto as well. Didn't open them yet - they will returned. I picked up 2 of these 970's and they are slick.

Thanks OP!

Could someone who had it installed confirm that the opener does not include light bulbs?

I replaced my 18yrs old.5hp LiftMaster screw drive with this model.
I'd also be replacing an old Genie 0.5hp screw drive with this one. How did you find this unit compared to the old after install?

Haven't decided to have the installer replace all wiring or use the old (20 yrs) wiring. Any opinions appreciated. Old unit is a Liftmaster Pro, screw drive

Pro:
1. A lot more quiet.
2. More smooth
3. Motion sensor on turning on the light = big plus
4. Range on the remote seems better
5. myQ build-in works a lot better than when I had the myQ hub add-on
6. I was able to use the old wire from the motor to the control panel (inside the wall)

Con:
1. multiple pieces to form the rail.

Thanks for the thorough reply! Do you also have a 1 bay garage? Also, can this unit take led light bulbs? I know the bulbs don't come included

My husband owns a garage door company. Home depot (and Lowes and Sears (for repairs) has a list of local approved providers to do the installations. The pay is so low my husband does not do very many. My husband charges $50-60 to install an opener if you contacted him directly so sometimes it might be better to find a local small company to install the opener. My husband has 25 years experince imstalling and some of the approved providers for places like home depot have employees with little experince. It is kind of a gamble, you could get someone great or someone that is new. One of the issues with home depot or the other companies that offer installtions specials , is they pay a low flat fee to installers, and they are not paying for your gas (it is a 1099 job so they pay for nothing). My husband's last home depot job was 60 miles away so 120 trip and with gas prices so high and trucks are not good on gas . My husband would net less then $10 to install the opener.

I will say if you need an opener buy it now. Garage door parts are in short supply. My husband has been with the same 4 suppliers for over 20 years and he can''t get parts. he has plenty of demand but finding parts is so hard. If he does find a part like springs it is 6 times the price of 2020. he hates raising prices so much (we live in an area with a lot people struggling with cost of living going up so much). The parts shortage has gotten so bad, my husband might close his business. He loves what he does and is good at it but the stress of not being able to help customers and spending hours calling for parts every day is getting to be too much. It seems to be the case across the country , we have talked to so many smaller garage door comapnies that can;t get parts . My husband has it better then most, there are shops being robbed , parts stolen off of deliveries or incomplete orders. Sadly trickle of parts is going to one large company that goes under a bunch of different names in different states that charges high rates. Luckily my husband has another solid job skill and education so we are fine, but it is sad to see many long time small quality providers of garage door service in the last 3-4 months start to struggle or close do to not a lack of business but getting supplies.

I am trying to schedule installation and it looks like I can only get installation service to the same zip code that I ordered the garage door opener from. Is that true? Seems a bit odd to me.

Really excited to get this installed. We just moved into a new place and the garage door opened is right below the two upstairs bedrooms. It's an old chain belt drive and the sound/vibration freaks our cats out. This will hopefully be a noticeable improvement.
