I'm worried about Eufy security after that major security problem they had a couple weeks ago. What a nightmare for the company.

Some people opened their apps to find that they had full control of all the systems and cameras in stranger's homes. Full streaming, access to recordings, mic, everything for a few hours.

Another reason to never have these cameras indoors, but plenty of people were talking about how they had them in their bedrooms.

I consider this a big deal bc Eufy sells -security- systems.. so why then are they not doing enough virtual runs of server updates, etc. to make dang sure this sort of thing doesn't happen?

If this were some other random IOT device, I'd smile and and add it to the hundreds of other IOT breaches I've heard about.

If you're serious in the security hardware business, you don't release half-baked, rushed, whatever updates and such. Eufy just isn't a serious player and seems dangerous at this point.

Just picked this up. We've been happy with the eufy camera. I need a second motion detector and more sensors, it's probably cheaper for me to buy two of these things.

I've been eyeing this set but I already have a homebase 2. Trying to figure out whether it's cheaper to buy the pieces separately without the homebase or if there are other uses to a second home base?

The website 9to5mac detailed a recent security breach.

From the article:

Huge Eufy privacy breach shows live and recorded cam feeds to strangers
- May. 17th 2021

Update: Eufy has acknowledged the issue, and made a statement – below.
A huge Eufy privacy breach has resulted in both live and recorded camera feeds being shown to complete strangers. They also have complete access to the account, including control of pan-and-tilt cameras where fitted.

The issue was first noted on Reddit, and an Eufy cam owner at 9to5Mac has been able to confirm that he saw the same thing …
-Reddit user MeChum87 reported it.

"Anyone else have this? I checked my app today (from New Zealand) and noticed none of the videos were of my own. They are from someone in another country (nice Mustang) – "Kangaroo Cam" alludes to being in Australia somewhere. I can also see their contact details (as added accounts) […]
I have 3 little children, I am very worried that others are looking at my cameras too. Huge Security Breach Eufy – WTF. EufyCam – I'm throwing mine in the bin, I suggest you do the same."

Others said they'd seen the same thing.
"Noticed that my home base was playing up with red light then nothing so I jumped into the app and had access to someone else's doorbell."

"I'm having the same issue. I could access everything on somebody else's account, including the live feed and I was controlling their camera (pan, tilt, rotate). I was able to take video recordings, using the in-app record button, which saved to my phone […] The camera I had access to was in the Los Angeles time zone."

"I have the Eufy camera pro 365 battery life Home bas 2. Im from Aus and i can see someone's cameras from America."

"I'm seeing someones camera from Florida at the moment and I'm from Australia. They have cameras inside their house and that is just creepy."
"Yep, me too. I'm seeing someone elses camera's. Live feed, history, events, the lot. Full access to the Homebase, settings, home network info."

A 9to5Mac writer confirmed the issue.
Could see all details, recordings, live (edited). It was like I was logged in as the person.
Logging out and then in again restored access to his own cameras.
Many of the Reddit reports are from Australia and New Zealand, but that may simply be a time-zone issue. Certainly it is occurring in the US too, and some of the feeds accessed were in the US.

------Article Ends

People were reporting access to other people cameras for hours after the breach went public.

I understand eufy is a popular brand, and I have no bone to pick with them personally. That being said, I believe potential buyers should have all the facts before jumping in.

They are clearing inventory for a new security product.

Although the security incident was bad, it was resolved quickly and hopefully will result in positive changes. Gaining trust back from customers though is whole other uphill battle.

I bought 5 sensors from the BB deal where they were $20, might have to jump on this. Does anyone know if spray painting the entry sensors black would affect the performance? All my windows/sliding doors are black, so would like to make it cosmetically appealing.

The door entry sensors are magnetic, so you should be fine painting them. You could likely even paint the motion sensor housings, but not the translucent sensor face itself, assuming you mask carefully.
