I purchased this last time it was on sale for $534. Decent laptop.
Nice screen, keyboard is somewhat annoying since it's gray and back lit. You would have to turn of the keyboard lights during daytime to see the letters properly.
Over all it is thin and light but the exterior shell is plastic not aluminum, which fooled me into thinking it was aluminum but I was surprised when I received it.
RAM is upgradable, I added another 8gb stick.
Here is a link to the RAM stick sold by Dell. It was on sale when I purchased it for $52 now its $77. You can find similar RAM for cheaper on Amazon. https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/d...023/memory

all in all good purchase for the price but make sure you test it well during the 30 return period because Dells customer service is terrible.

Edit: even though you get a free 1 year of McAfee included in the price, Dell for some reason bill it on a separate line in the invoice. my invoice showed $37 line for McAfee. I called and requested for a refund, and after some haggling the rep refunded the McAfee charge. so I ended up paying less than $500 for the laptop. make sure you give this a try if you decide to go for it.

Most Ultrabooks don't have one since people tend to use wifi. Or you could use a $10 dongle to convert from USB to Ethernet

It's not about the $5 or being "cheap" - look at the profile pic of the laptop on the sides. It's barely bigger than the size of the USB port on the side. Including an ethernet port would probably make the sides 30% larger at least, and that is huge. Most newer ultrabooks don't have ethernet anymore either to help keep the profile as thin as possible, and you can spend $3,000 on one if you wanted.

And as someone else said, the amount of users that would actually use an ethernet port on a laptop 14" or under is probably under 5%. It's not a desktop replacement, and is designed for portability. I personally don't know what situation I'd ever plug in an ethernet to my laptop instead of using wifi. I could see doing that if you are buying a desktop replacement laptop, but not an ultra portable 14".

No ethernet port = lame. Who in their right mind designs a computer with no ability to connect by ethernet?

This is not some cheap Chrome book type POS. $500+ i5 based laptop and they seriously expect people to buy some cheap usb to ethernet adapter to do what should have been built into the device in the first place and would have cost Dell all of probably $5 to include? It is lame by any measure imo. To each his own, but I do not see why anyone would buy such a thing.

I understand your $5 part argument but your other part of the argument i dont agree with. Its a laptop that's meant to be portable and most users now a days do not have to plug in their laptops to an Ethernet port so its definitely not a deal breaker along the "why would anyone buy such a thing" lines.

I work on a laptop at times and on wifi as I have a strong stable wifi but also have a dedicated office Desktop for that as well. For the laptop if I am going to be setting up on a desk to work from then I am already connecting other stuff; wireless keyboard/mouse, dual monitors, speakers, headset so plugging 1 more USB connection for a LAN wouldn't be foreign or unheard. I actually have a USB Hub and a USB C Hub to do just that (both of which have a LAN port) so everything is connecting to my laptop with a single USB/USBC cable....

PS. I bought a Lenovo 17" from Costco that was $1800 and that did not have a LAN port probably due to it trying to stay on the thinner side but did include a USB to LAN dongle....

10000000% agree. I work exclusively on laptops for work/personal/consulting for portability and space and just plug in to a dock when I'm at my desk. I get WAY more accessories and internet without an issue. No way this is a 'deal breaker' just because of this.

Most people who use Ethernet are going to be plugged into a docking station anyway I would think. Stand-alone is not worth the space it requires on these ultrabooks

...meant to add, my brother bought this last month, and confirms what many are thinking...one of best bangs for the buck (decent specs, really good performance, bright enough display, upgradeable RAM, not to heavy, etc.) in the $500-$600 price range.

Check around for dell discount codes too, as many times they will stack with what ever the sale price is.

How do you know the ram is upgradable with a second slot? I don't see that on the webpage.

Most newer laptops dont have one since ethernet ports are huge and there's no mini version. USB-C dongles are available to meet the need. I'm with you though, I love how slim laptops today are but I hate needing a dongle for video, USB A, etc.

Existing one is 8gb in 1 slot. So, there is another slot that can accommodate another ram. I just checked Amazon has 8 gb ram for ~$45. So, easily upgradable to 16 gb.
