I'm a volunteer firefighter and I can't stand the silly, ass-kissing culture that surrounds fire, police, military, EMS, and other professions. I've heard people say "thank you for your service". LOL what? As if COAL miners, and OIL rig workers don't risk their lives on a daily basis more than I do. Maybe even to a greater degree? I chose to be a volunteer firefighter. And every police, military, EMS, and other person chose to be that. There is no military draft in this country. There's no mandatory firefighter, police, or EMT service.
"Military and first responders are the reason people like you can have the safe, comfortable cubicles from which you can complain about their perceived entitlement."
And road construction workers are the reason the aforementioned military and first responders have the very ROADS they drive on. And coal miners are the reason the aforementioned military and first responders have continuous electricity in their homes. And it goes ON and ON.
Now do I think there's something SPECIAL about someone who chooses to be a soldier? A policeman or woman? A firefighter? An EMT? Absolutely. Do I think it's something admirable, something honorable?? Absolutely. Does it take a special or different kind of person to assume these risks and do these jobs when they 100% don't have to?? Absolutely. These people deserve respect, for sure. Do I think I'm better than anyone else or deserve more praise because I decided to risk my life to save others and put out fires? LOL no. I chose to do it because that's who I am, and I've always been that way when it comes to helping others if I can. I just thought it was the right thing to do. The "hero worship" when it comes to military, first responders, and others in this country is sick. And in my experience growing up in various countries and traveling to many more, it's very unique to the US. It also RINGS HOLLOW when all of the kissy-kissy lip service isn't followed up with ACTIONS. Oh what's that, you have Gulf War Syndrome?? Haha, never heard of it, go f*ck yourself. What's that, you have PTSD? GTFO. What's that, rape in the military? Never heard of it. We take SUCH great care of our veterans, don't we? Oh and EMT's are so highly paid as well. Yes all of the EMTs I've met through the fire service are so well paid based on the risks they take and the lives they save DAILY. right. The only group of "first responders" that is well taken care of is police, thanks to their mafia unions who defend them 100% of the time (even in the face of clear video evidence documenting criminal and unjustifiable actions, premeditated and otherwise.).
Let me know the next time our US service men and women are called to fight in a legitimate war, when the US is actually being attacked. When the interests of actual American citizens who live in the US are at risk. Or better, let me know when there's a draft again. When our society agrees to FORCE people to join the military, when they're forced to be EMTs, and forced to be police and firemen for the greater good then we can think about some good ol' hero worship.
