Shroom Supply [shroomsupply.com] is having a 20% off sitewide sale through 5/31 with code MEMORIAL.

For those that are not familiar with the company, they specialize in mushroom cultivation supplies and offer one of the most popular beginner mushroom grow kits [shroomsupply.com] on the market, which comes to $31.99 after the MEMORIAL coupon. Shipping cost on the kit is $11.50 so it totals $43.49 after shipping. I have been a customer of the company for close to 10 years and I have never seen them offer 20% off before, so this is quite possibly the best sale they have ever done. A good opportunity to try out mushroom cultivation on the cheap or to stock up on supplies for seasoned cultivators like myself.

Mushrooms can help with depression? Like how? I've never heard that before!

Definitely. Obviously, it depends on the type of mushroom. I take daily supplements of Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus) mushrooms to treat depression. There are many scientific studies [nih.gov] linking this species to anti-depressant effects.

But, what helps me more is microdosing any mushroom from the Psilocybe genus. This has proven extremely effective for my depression and is also backed up by many scientific studies [hopkinsmedicine.org].

I advise researching this and at least review the two studies I linked. Natural medicine is what has been used for centuries... screw all the synthetic stuff... it isn't good for you and it usually doesn't work.

Studies have shown it's very effective, but under very specific conditions:
1) Proper preparation before the dose (setting an intention, etc.) and proper integration afterwards.
2) Proper set (mindset) and setting for the dose.
3) Wearing a blindfold 95% of the time (so you are focused internally)
4) Headphones on 100% of the time, with a music playlist that matches the different stages of the experience. This is the playlist that Johns Hopkins uses (it makes all the difference in the world):
https://open.spotify.com/playlist...=copy-link
5) A trained guide whom you trust. The guide will be quiet 99% of the time, but will provide psychological safety.
6) A high enough dose to suppress your brain's default mode network (DMB). There's a lot of talk about microdosing, but the truth is that ALL of the studies have been done with high doses. There are *zero* clinical studies done with microdosing.

Needless to say, this treatment is still in clinical trial stage and is illegal in most parts of the country.

If you buy the kit, you still need to buy spores somewhere else?

Wow, I can't believe I've not heard of this. You would think this would be a bigger deal, especially in this time of isolation and increased depression. So lions mane is legal, I can probably find that in pill form easily. The other is not legal, right?
In regards to this product, this would give a person everything they need to farm their own, except for the spores? I clicked around their website and didn't see a category for spores, any suggestions?
And thank you for the time and super helpful explanation!!

The reason you have not heard about this is because there's no money in big pharma to support this. Just like how industry pushed formula over breast milk, industry will continue to push stuff they can make boat loads of money off of rather than something that really works and they would only make 12 bucks worth of mushrooms off of you on. It's sad but true, our society cares more about feeding the rich than it does feeding the hungry. I know two people who personally did the treatment above, they were both combat veterans with severe PTSD, both of their spouses say they are a new person! I watched a movie called fantastic fungi, and it really spells out the procedure above.

Thank you, I've spent my whole Sunday morning reading about this stuff. I had no idea! Love that there may be a way out of depression without pouring chemicals into your body.

The studies for depression are NOT with Lion's Mane. Lion's Mane is considered a supplement that may (or may not) help with brain function. But it does nothing to treat depression.

All depression studies were done with psilocybin, the active compound of "magic" mushrooms. The most common of these mushrooms (and the easiest one to grow indoors) is Psilocybe cubensis.

This store does not sell Psilocybe cubensis spores, only mushroom supplies. A quick search on Google or reddit will give you lots of options.

It's legal to buy spores in all US states, except California, Idaho, and Georgia.

good to get the word out, there is probably more depression after last year. BUT of course follow up with research on your own. Glad Oregon legalized and more studies needed.

You cannot buy psychedelic mushrooms in Oregon legally yet. Starting in 2023 they will be available via Psilocybin Service Centers where you will get the mushrooms AND the therapy. As far as I know, you won't be able to buy just the mushrooms.

The mushrooms will not be sold at cannabis dispensaries, since the Oregon Health Authority will be responsible for the mushroom program, unlike cannabis, which is managed by the Oregon Liquor Control Commission.
