Here's a very good, in depth review of this exact Dell G15 5510 laptop.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaloTlgCguI

And here's a review of the Lenovo Legion 5 with the same RTX 3060 but at 130 watts, and a Ryzen 5800H

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rU3l-zQk40I

In relative overall gaming performance, you get like 5% more gaming performance going from a i7-108750H with a 90 watt 3060 to a Ryzen 5800H with a 130 watt 3060, according to the review. Not really worth the added heat, and money in my opinion. The pure CPU bench scores are a bit higher though on the Ryzen G15. I'd definitely save the cash, and go with this much cheaper G15 intel model. Hope this helps!

The Ryzen version is like $245 more. I do hear it runs a lot hotter though too. But the Ryzen G15 does have a better 300 nit screen. I wouldn't say the Core i7-10870H is old. It came out in late 2020.

You also get a dogshit design with the Dell, insane orange backlight and 2014 design, the reason that legion 5 is only 5% ahead is because it ships with bleh ram. Where you need to upgrade ram for about 85$ for a good dual rank JEDEC kit for ryzen laptops. That's an option down the line for massive 10+% FPS boosts and huge 15+% in 1% lows.

The display on the Dell is also the lowest of the low for gaming laptops, it's really bad.

From what I've read up on, This Dell G15 5510 is a new design that's different from Dell's G models from last year. I had the model, with the i7 9750H and it ran incredibly hot. Like in the mid 90's. And that was normal for that model. I ended up returning it. This Dell G15 this year has it's thermal issues under control, and is one of the cooler running laptops with these specs. CPU and GPU are in the 70's now, under load.
Unless you're only talking about appearance. Which is subjective. I like it, myself. Also, that's good to know about the ram for AMD. Unfortunately, that makes it even more expensive though, adding $85 to a $250 premium, going to the Ryzen version. I don't wanna spend $335 more for a 10% increase in framerates. That's a 3rd of the cost of this deal. Have you used this exact 250 nit display in this laptop? I'm actually curious if it's bright enough for darker rooms. I don't plan to ever use it outside. Thanks, BoastfulMice.

Don't need to because in the gaming laptop community we have known for about 2 years now that all the 120hz panels have the same specs, and are made from just two companies(sort've similar to 144hz panels but there are more variations of those) Dell is definitely just using these companies. This dell G15 is still behind its competitiors no but isn't the disaster you bought last year. If you're gaming on the display it's a poor choice, not only for the brightness but more washed out, and super inaccurate colors(60% sRGB as opposed to 98% sRGB standard) as well as terrible response times(low enough so that it can't physically hit 120hz, it's closer to a 100hz display with visible ghosting. This is why these displays are always avoided on laptops unless they're 800$ and below, on top of the low brightness, they're the lowest quality panels overall).

The ram I was talking about is only really applicable to the legion 5, where the base 16gb config is known to have poor ryzen ram, unlike the Dell G15 ryzen with higher wattage which has fine ram(and what looks like a mux switch, sadly intel version doesn't have this) will be substantially faster.

Thanks for commenting. I never use my laptop outside in daylight. Is the brightness good enough in darker rooms?
For indoor use, the brightness was more than enough for me. I was using it around 50% brightness in a dark room and 70% in a very bright room.

I get what you are saying, but the Lenovo is not available anywhere, and whenever it does come in stock its super marked up. The kind of specs you are getting with this for 1k is too good compared to any other gaming laptop right now.

Nice. Good info to know. Honestly, I don't do competitive gaming. So I usually just push the graphics settings as high as I can, and cap at 60 FPS. Always in dark rooms. So I'm hoping the brightness will be enough. Honestly, all the places I'm taking it to have a TV anyways, but it's nice to have a decent laptop display. At this price point, the laptop will hold it's value for a long while. Or I could even possibly return it for the false information, when a dell rep told me it was 115 watts on the GPU. Not sure if that's because they factor in 90 Watts on the GPU + the dynamic power boost that's in these 3xxx cards. But even then, I think it's only like a 15 watt increase anyways. So all around.. Confusing. Haha. So have you used a 250 display in dark rooms? Is 250 nits enough in my case?

Thank you! I've been trying to get that information out of people who hate on 250 nit displays, but they dance around the question like a politician. I was starting to get worried that it would look too dim in a dark room.

HP Omen 3060 is regularly 1150$ for the 16gb config..

The 5 pro doesn't have much of an issue with markups and is in stock for the 3060. But that doesn't compete with this laptop. The legion 5 non pro competes but that hasn't really had a release in the US

However, the HP Omen 3060 is a better laptop then this Dell

The Dell G15 is 290 measured on the screen ,and the reviewer specifically calls it out , 250 nits is fine but be prepared to keep it full bright ...also people who pixel count themselves cant tell the difference between anything above 100 Hertz ....the whole RGB gamut ...tryu going to a best buy you will be surprised with screen comparisons side by side ....unless you are publishing content into graphics designing etc dont bother much ...the dell is a lot of value .....BTW just mine the heck out of it at 48 MH/s ...confirmed by people who bought it and it has amazing samsung memory ...that means you can easy peasy make u r money back in 10 months if u mine it out .

You could, dynamic boost is not 25watts on any laptop, the most is 20 watts. So this laptop cannot hit 115w on the GPU, that's completely false.

250 nits is good enough for dark rooms, it's just a bad display in general. If you don't do competitive shooters then you don't need high response times, problem is you can't configure the panel unlike monitors and you'll be stuck with useless overshoot despite not needing the aggressive response times.
