Looks like if you don't have currently enabled Amazon Sidewalk devices, you won't have the option in your Alexa setting to turn it off(?)

So later on additional device become enabled, you need to turn off Amazon Sidewalk at that time??? Meaning if Amazon suddenly enable older gen Echo (or other device currently not in the list) to act as sidewalk, then at later time, the option to turn it off will be available and someone need to remind you to turn off sidewalk???

Or in the future you buy newer echo devices, then need to remind yourself to turn off sidewalk at that time....

This applies to Echo 3rd gen and ring newer devices. It must have AWS FreeTos kernel.

Does this apply to Fire TV or Fire TV stick?

Update your App.
Or what device you need to have in order to have this setting?
Will old Echo dot, Fire TV stick, Fire tablet, etc trigger this setting?

Update: Just notice someone posted the list. So may be 1st/2nd gen Echo dot won't trigger this setting(?)

So time to skip newer gen Amazon/Echo devices....

uninstalled Alexa App. I do have smart devices, but they all work well with their own dedicated App. No need for Alexa app at least for Me.

Those of who thinks your neighbors and strangers will be able to use your wifi for free should actually read the linked article. Not judging on the intent of this feature but it's limited to Amazon Alexa devices and Ring devices and will be using small amount of data. That said, most neighborhoods have limited broadband selection so the chances of internet going down while your neighbors' still up is pretty slim. Would this work if you just turn off internet on a vacation home perhaps?

If you are using Echo devices, it linked to your account so doesn't matter if you have Alexa App or not.

And is it true that if you don't have Amazon/Echo devices that currently capable act as Sidewalk bridges, there won't be option show to disable it for your Amazon account???

But in the future you do buy Echo devices that is capable as Sidewalk bridge, then you need to remember to turn it off which most people may not remember??

May be easier to remember not be buy any future Echo devices.... Someone need to post reminder in all future Echo device deals.....

aka amazon skynet

Not really. Skynet is a fictional artificial intelligence that wants to kill people. Sidewalk is just a network with very little bandwidth, for connecting smart devices that don't require much data.

I saw you posted the devices listed in the article in the wiki. Thanks. What I'm interested in is what other devices (if any) are currently on the market, from Ring and Amazon, and are already capable of Sidewalk, but haven't been included in the initial rollout.

I see no problem with this. Learn about The Internet of Things. Don't allow stupid internet news to rule you.

"Another potential concern is that, while the "donation" of your bandwidth to the Sidewalk network is capped at 500MB per month, if you are on a plan in which your data usage is very limited, you might want to opt out of the service (more on how to do that in a moment)."

That's more than I want to possibly share without getting paid.

That's how it starts...j/k

I would be just as concerned about the UWB vulnerabilities that Apple and Google are using/going to use for their tracking tags. However, throughout human history, humans have figured out how to use new technologies for nefarious purposes with great alacrity. This is nothing new in that regard. Since I've only got 2nd Gen Echoes, I am not personally tied to Sidewalk.
