I really wanted the belt sander... I guess a planer is sort of a sander, right?

The planer looks attractive...but is it worth it to get into the Kobalt line?

Bought a set. Not sure if in past anyone has done this and returned the batteries and kept the tool for reduced price. Like the Ryobi deal currently going on at HD.

The kobalt line is amazing, I think that the 24V is here to stay, but who knows what will happen. The "selling point" used to be battery pricing, but they have adjusted those up a bit. The standard drill + driver + 2x batteries + charger is often pretty inexpensive for the quality, and so if you picked up this deal, and one of those you would have 4 batteries, 2 chargers, and some tools.

Where is this deal? If I add the battery it is adding the blower. Was going to pick up the Ryobi reciprocating saw deal, but might as well get this in brushless.

This deal doesn't seem 'hackable'. When you add both to cart it doesn't reflect discount across both, rather shows free gift as free gift, with full price for batteries

I thought about the planer, but with this deal, I'll be able to "cut the cord" on my circular saw, so that's the one I went with right now. I already have the Kobalt drill and impact driver, and they are great.

Good deal. After having used one of their tool sets for a little less than a year, I'll say that they last well with the larger battery, so I went ahead and got one with a circular saw.

Most of their 24v stuff is pretty good, at least for this home user. The charger that comes with this kit is very slow. Too bad they aren't offering the free tool with the quick charger kit.

I compared all tool brands, and decided the best was the Kobalt XTR line. There used to be alot of good sales, but I have only seen the standard MAX line lately. I picked up a couple DeWalt XR tools in the mean time, figuring I could sell those off, if a good XTR set came up.

This is a good enough deal that I may pick a tool that would not likely be in the sets, but it is wonder if waiting is a lost cause, and I should fill out the DeWalt XR line?

FYI, I have gone through two Kobalt drills. Both were replaced for free. Details below. My biggest home project was redoing my deck... nothing too crazy. Average DIY usage at home, I guess... Thank goodness the Kobalt warranty is freaking awesome! (Just be sure to link the tool to your MyLowe's account... almost screwed myself!) As long as you have everything the tool came with, an ID, along with proof of purchase (receipt, MyLowe's, etc.), they'll replace it for you on the spot.

How the first drill died:

The first time it slowly became harder and harder to remove the bits, until eventually it was damn near impossible without using every muscle fiber in your hands. I did not have the receipt, but after a good amount of convincing and pleading, they agreed to replace it.

First warranty exchange experience:

On this occasion, I was lucky in terms of how the lady processed the warranty exchange. They did the replacement as a return > store credit, then used the store credit to purchase the new one (all done by the lady at the register, not like I had the option of getting a different tool). They then gave me the receipt. This allowed me to add the transaction to MyLowes such that it was a new tool and new warranty.

Second drill death story:

The second replacement, I had been drilling holes using a spade bit one night, and it overheated... and never recovered. After that incident, every time I pulled the trigger on the drill I would have to disconnect and reconnect the battery. The light would flash continuously after letting go of the trigger, and refused to work until I reset the battery. Even if I just had to tighten two screws, I would have to disconnect and reconnect the battery to tighten the second screw.

Second warranty exchange experience:

This time the exchange was processed differently. I wasn't given a receipt, but I got a brand new drill. If this one ends up needing to be replaced, I'm not expecting another replacement.

Moral of the story: Save your receipt, or link the purchase to your MyLowe's account!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

I had the impact driver, and the bit collar came out.went to warranty it, and after a long runaround they gave me store credit.however, at that point the tool had gone up to 180! I originally bought it for 99! There are pros and cons to everything I guess. . . they did offer me additional 25 off a new impact driver.then I raised my eyes and lo and behold! I saw They were having sale on drill/ driver and impact combo for 130! Paid 5 dollars and walked out with new impact plus drill driver

Oh man, that's a scenario I hadn't even thought of. If you bring a broken tool still covered under warranty and they have the identical model in stock, they should offer that to you first.

I haven't opened the box of the most recent replacement yet, and I'm contemplating trying to exchange it for the 2-tool combo @ $199 w/ drill and impact driver, and pay the current difference ($40). I feel like I stand a 50/50 shot with manager's discretion. The problem is my ID will show that at the time I got this replacement, it was on sale for $130 or $140. I'm thinking if I use my passport, maybe it won't show in the system. If I just tell them I got it recently, don't have the receipt, and only present my passport I think I'd have my best chances lol.

Not to mention I got the very first drill for $99, just like yours... so it feels like a Longshot, but we'll see if I work up the nerve lol. It's been in the box for a month for just this reason.
