Does this lights up (without pushing the buttons) right away when it is connected to a power source? I want to control it via a smart plug and I don't want a two step process (power + press a button on the controller) to light it up.

I want this too! Mine (a different model) requires the button push, and I'd like to find one that works with a smart plug.

I think that you'll have to do the two-step process, since there's an on/off button on the wire. It seems to be the pattern with cables like that.
