Win 10 reboots since the ongoing updates

4,010 115 June 2, 2021 at 01:07 PM
I have a HP Compaq 6200 Pro SFF Intel 5 pc - I did upgrade HDD, Ram, Video card
BIOS J01 v02.28 March 24th 2015
Its been working fine.

With this never ending updates, now it reboots in the middle of my work. No blue screen.

How to fix this?

HP has 2014 BIOS - but my PC has March 2015 BIOS - how is it possible?
https://support.hp.com/us-en/driv...pc/5037900

Update:
- Soon after I bought this on NewEgg, I installed the Video Card - will get back with the year of purchase
- a year ago, I put larger 2nd HDD.
- a year ago, I added more memory

Sounds hot. Be sure it has lots of cooling. This topic is common as summer arrives.

Checked the temp - max around 38C
So it must be something else

I've been having multiple freezes and reboots since a major update to Windows some 3-4 months ago. I don't know if it was due to the update or a coincidence. Best I can tell it's something to do with the video card, since sound sometimes still works, or the screen sometimes does something funny just before it goes like shimmering or getting pixilated or showing weird colors. Have others been having similar issues recently? I have an AMD RX560-based Gigabyte video card FWIW.

after it reboots, go to Start -> Event Viewer and check some logs for Windows -> System or Apps and go backwards and see what you can find

You should find at least one entry on who/what initiated the reboot, doesn't have to be warning or error. Hope it does come up and we can dig from there

This mostly happens when I play Youtube. Error Log:
"A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the NVIDIA Streamer Network Service service to connect."

This link talks about it - I went to msconfig and disabled the service. Lets see what happens:

I went to safemode and removed Nvidia drivers completely.
Then I just installed the driver from Device mgr.
Then played Youtube.
It rebooted again!

Here is the Error code:
The Desktop Window Manager process has exited. (Process exit code: 0x00000001, Restart count: 1, Primary display device ID: NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS)

What kind of temps are you seeing on the GPU? What model of graphics card?

Better to try installing GPU drivers downloaded directly from the GPU mfg.

If it has internal graphics, you might try removing the graphics card and using integrated graphics instead.

Will it affect the life of the mobo?

No, but it may not have integrated graphics. The reason I asked about the GPU model is power. I was wondering what the power draw is for your GPU and whether it's within what your power supply can output. Most likely it's fine as most low profile graphics cards aren't super power hungry.

Also you're asking about the life expectance of a 7 year old computer and realistically you shouldn't expect too many more years out of it.

I can not say the power capacity of the built in PS - HP never published it as far as I know.

To reduce to load on the mobo, I installed the Geforce 8400GS - so I asked? Though its 7yrs old, it might last longer if I use a separate video card?

It has a 240 watt power supply, but there are other relevant specs I didn't quickly find. GPU recommends minimum 350W.

Last longer as in, have slightly more powerful capable graphics so as to be more useful, maybe.
Last longer as in, extend the lifespan of the device, very unlikely.

It's possible that it's occasionally (under higher load) drawing a bit more power than the system can deliver and that's causing the 'black screens'.
