I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

Which are the services where you can prepay a large amount ? Did anyone try PG&E or xfinity ? Say $2000 and they wont refund you the money. Haha, I think my water company sent me back a check for the excess amount and I lost the check
PGE for sure - I do it all the time. PGE charges a flat $1.x credit card fee and it is in my best interest to charge a decent amount to minimize the impact of the fee. Note no money refund at least for the durations I have overpaid.
Xfinity has been fine too. Haven't seen a refund either.
Property tax - definitely a good idea but the problem is that at least my local guys charge a 2.3% fee - so I would rather use big payments that I have to make and don't cost me anything. For similar reasons, I would not charge my restaurant bill to this card - Discover 5% is so much better.
My plan: Paid my car insurance, will pay a large medical bill (I have HSA - but for the rewards, always better to pay using credit card instead of HSA card/checks), water bill/PGE/Xfinity/Dish/T-mobile are definitely candidates for me. And if I still cannot do 4K, it will be Costco cash card. There is an opportunity value of not tying up 4K in things for a long time - so my priority is to distribute and pre-pay for the next 3-4 months.
I always do IRS using CIti Double cash card. Used to be 1.87% but it has inched to 1.96% fee - so what I spend on fee, I get it back. But I also have the use of that money for another 1.5 months.

Not sure about the others, but T-Mobile ~$1.5-2k multiple times with no fees at all. TWC/Spectrum/Charter or whatever had no problems with large amounts of 1k+ and no fees either.

Smarter to use tmo prepaid instead of postpaid. Never heard of those others. Must be flyover state.
If your objective is to save every nickel you can at the cost of quality of life, then it makes sense. It also makes sense if your objective is to leave behind few Million dollars that you have saved for others to enjoy after you :-).
I personally want to be able to pull up my phone any time I want and look at a stock quote, make a stock transaction, let the phone give me directions without worrying about how much data I am using etc. I have streamed CNBC on few of my long commuting trips - can't imagine doing that on the prepaid phone. International travel - being able to use the phone freely is a game changer - language is no longer a barrier - you tell the GPS app that you want to go point B - it tells you which station to go to and what time the train is pulling in - don't have to struggle with a local person to understand how to get to B and instead of B, he sends you to C. [BTW - on international, at least T-mobile gives free sucky bandwidth data - but it is good enough for this kind of stuff].
Hope this isn't a stupid question, Chase is my first "points" card. If I buy something through my airline mileage shopping site, and use my new Chase card to purchase it, do I get points in both the mileage plan and Chase rewards?
Don't panic. Wait until your billing cycle closes and see the actual points posted to your account. It is possible the UR system works differently for different accounts. If you don't receive 100K points, call Chase to rectify your issue. You applied within the period when 100K pts was offered, so I am not worried too much. Be prepared to show Chase the supporting documents. Good luck.
Thanks for the tips. I will be on the lookout. I messaged Chase about the missing points, so we will see what they say.
New to doing credit cards for points to redeem for "free" air travel. Someone also mentioned we could do 2 SouthWest credit cards (1 business card) to accumulate the 125k points easily, which gets you a free companion pass. You can also reapply every 2 years.
Is this Chase card a better offer overall? Seems the free companion travel would beat it? I assume another difference though is with Chase you can fly any airline, but it's also on a 4yr renewal cycle before being able to get such a bonus again?

COSTCO card, which also allows you to shop at COSTCO stores with it and without membership. the COSTCO card has no fees and acts like a gift card.

What if all you buy is rotisserie chicken bananas and $1.50 hotdog there? It will take you eons to use up the gift cards.
Everyone that goes there has an entire grocery cart full of items for their giant families. While the single SD folk carry one or two items to self checkout and everyone stares since no one only buys a couple items there. Single folk are not Costco's target audience.
My family member says they only have an email from chase for referral for freedom line. Is the CSP referral targeted option or is there a link in chase account they can send me?
