yes but you will get 80k rather than 100k. pick your carrot.
06-12-2021 at 04:49 PM
there was a internal memo to branches. You will get additional 20k automatically with 80k. It will be automatic.
for more info you can check subreddit CreditCards

As of 7/19 they are still waiving the fee in branch.

Annual fee is charged in the first 60 days. There is no way around the first fee (unless you apply in Branch per discussion, but YMMV on getting full 100K points). Cancel before 13th statement (ideally before 12th, to be safe) to not get charged the 2nd one.

Do not cancel, just downgrade to a free card
06-11-2021 at 02:02 AM
If you choose to close the account, here are the related impacts:
1. Your total available credit is reduced by whatever Sapphire credit limit was lost, which means that your credit utilization rate will go up. The effect of this on your credit score will probably be very small, except if you have only a few credit cards and carry a high debt load.
2. The closed account will remain in your credit history for ten years. At that time, the Sapphire account will drop off your credit history.
3. If you have no other Chase accounts, you will be unable to redeem any remaining UR points that you may have left when you terminated the Sapphire account.
Note: You can avoid all these impacts by changing product (a.k.a. downgrading) to a Chase Freedom Flex or Freedom Ultimate account.

Do not downgrade to another card that normally would give you $200-$300 in benefits if you directly open it. When you "downgrade" to another card that has sign up benefits you can no longer get that benefit.

yeah I noticed that THIS offers more points than the past
BUT they do not WAIVE THE 1st year which they did in the past for the lower offers

U will not if it is within 48 months
06-08-2021 at 02:20 PM
You do not qualify ...
... if you've received ANY Sapphire series sign-up bonuses within the past 48 months.
... if you have ANY currently active Sapphire series credit cards.
... if you have opened 5 or more new Personal credit cards within the past 24 months (Chase 5/24 policy). Business credit cards do not count.
Notes:
1. Being an AUTHORIZED USER of someone else's Sapphire card does not disqualify you from applying for your own Sapphire card. However, it does count toward Chase's 5/24 policy.
2. Instead of closing your existing Sapphire card, you should consider converting your Sapphire card into a Freedom card (no annual fee) to preserve your credit history.
06-22-2021 at 03:48 PM
You also usually have to wait at least 30 days before Chase's system accepts that you no longer have a Sapphire card - and even then it may not show up as an option in branch (happened to me so I had to eat the annual fee).
As long as all of the previous poster's criteria are met and you downgrade and then wait the 30+ days you should be ok.
On the plus side, Chase didn't pull my credit when the system determined I was ineligible at the time.

30 days seems to be off. I downgraded by Chase Sapphire Reserve to Flex. I was charged the annual fee of $550 on Sept 1. Then I downgraded on Sept 26 to Flex, I got the full refund back. Then I applied for a Chase Sapphire Preferred on Sept 27th, got a pending 7-10 days generic message, then called the reconsideration line and they shifted around my credit limits and got me approved for a Preferred.

Yes
06-08-2021 at 01:05 PM
No, if you are seeing this offer as pre-approved in your other Chase (e.g. Freedom) account.
06-08-2021 at 02:26 PM
Clarification re: ChaosBait's response.
There are very specific conditions where pre-approval trumps Chase's 5/24 Policy.

I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

Agree - if eligible, this card will pay for itself. You can always downgrade after 13 months if you feel you're not getting your money's worth or dont want to pay an AF.
MF, I just got the 80k offer! Kind of annoying that the referral link is still 80k though. With a $150 referral + $50 grocery bonus though I guess it's about the same. Still though would be nice!
I am authorized user on wife's card. Anyone know if I can open new and still be eligible?
ETA: I removed myself as AU and after about 10 days went to branch to open new account. at this time it showed up as pre approved for me in credit card section.
