I think the only way to completely remove them is to start over. Some of it even managed to sneak in a jungle val I was transferring out of the tank. All ideas I see online would end up killing all the other plants, ramshorns, and RCS I have in there as well so I'm struck.
I manually remove as much as possible, remove phosphate from the tank and dose heavily with co2 and nitrogen. That will make your plants outcompete any algae I'm aware of. Also make sure your lighting is good.

This sand is preferred by most due it not changing water chemistry and not being sharp like lava rock which can damage catfish.

The key to cleaning this substrate is put it in a bucket. Hose buried in the substrate and turn the hose on enough so that it agitates but not enough to kick up the desired material out of the bucket. Flood the bucket for 15 minutes+. Then take the hose and run it through the rest of the substrate and keep doing that until it runs clear.

People try to rush the cleaning process which to me is strange. You do this once or twice a decade unless you move. I can't understand how a 20 minute process is unreasonable. Especially since fish keeping is an extremely time consuming hobby unless you spend a lot.
that's a matter of opinion. there have been people that proved that having lava rock isn't detrimental to their corydora catfish. Probably due to biofilm developing on the surface of the substrate to repel injury. Eco complete has not changed the water chemistry or PH as far as I know. From my own experience. You're probably thinking of ADA aqua soil. Everyone's experience may vary.

It's a good idea to keep your fish safe, regardless of refuted methods, as I have my corydoras with my sand capped dirt tank. Although, I built that tank before I done further research.

This product is easy to use
This product adds a great Value (OK..but they don't actually state what the value is...??)
This product is Manufactured in United States

(Everything about the product description sounds like it's a Chinese product. It's one step from: This Number One A+ Product)
Seachem is a US company and has been around for a long time. Anyone who's experienced with aquariums has run across them at some point.

Black Diamond blasting media is a cheap alternative. $11 for 50lbs at Tractor Supply. It's naturally black and doesn't change the water chemistry. May not be a good choice for catfish. Also it's cation exchange rate is low so you'll need to use Osmocote+ "pills" if you have rooting plants.

While I haven't done scientific studies on corydora catfish. I did study/work in an ichthyology lab for 5+ years. So I have the foundational knowledge of fish and their ecosystems.
Corydoras live in muddy rivers so any sharp substrate can cause barbel erosion. It's not the substrate itself mind you it's the small abrasions that allow bacteria in that rot the barbels away. I will agree with you it's a small risk, and shouldn't be the primary reason to chose a substrate. I however, can't get past the compaction/anaerobic risks.

While my concern is there for Corys, their barbels do regrow. The leading cause that I'm aware of in barbel erosion is lack of calcium(hardness). It can decimate corydoras. To my knowledge there hasn't been any studies on this outside hobbyist.

I'm sure you can appreciate why I didn't want to go into so much detail on my first post on such an unnecessarily controversial topic.

I may indeed be thinking of different substrates but I found this "CaribSea Eco-Completeā„¢ Black Planted Aquarium Substrate is ideal for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. It is cleaner than most gravel and contains no dyes, paints or coatings. This substrate contains rich volcanic soil which has essential minerals like iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sulfur and over 25 other elements that keep your aquatic plants healthy. "

I don't want my substrate having anything that's gonna leach out.

Yeah, what I think is happening. either sellers creating fake marimos or the algae is hitchhiking on real marimos Kinda like how I have 7 species of snails in my tank and I've only bought 1 hahaha

I believe I read it takes decades for marimos to grow. Not a surprise Amazon sellers are making fake ones.

actually it would get kicked up and buried, decompose and release noxious gases every time it gets disturbed. it also makes the water cloudy every time it gets disturbed and RES will do this often. RES are best with larger rocks they can't move or eat with a clean bottom allowing the filtration to do its best job and keeping the water clean.
Get a snail for that. They usually move and shuffle the sand regularly enough

This is what I use as well, haven't looked back to other substrate since discovering this.

I switched to the BD blasting sand from tractor supply and my corys barbells are gone. Previously had pool filter sand and didn't have a problem. Wondering if the seachem stuff would be worth switching to.

I have this in 2 of my tanks, love this substrate. I have a planted tank and everything is super healthy and grows well. The black also brings out the colors of my fish and my assassin snail loves to bury himself in It

Ditto on the flourite, I used it on my small 20 g and a lot less maintenance than the 75 gallon planted tank I have with caribsea eco-complete that somehow managed to spread the marimo ball I had in there. The floor and plants are covered in that thick green stuff and is impossible to remove.
Sounds like hair algae...

I'm not a fan... it disintegrates and turns to muck very quickly.
