Got my $150 one today. Looks new to me, not a single scratch or fingerprint. All the components still in their factory sealed bags. I'm guessing someone just bought and immediately returned. Sorry to hear some people weren't as fortunate.

I never realized how much of a difference curved monitors make, as I've never seen one in person. Its like going to the movie theatre vs going to an IMAX.

I have also never used a VA monitor. The blacks are black. On an IPS screen, the blacks almost look grey. High contrast. Viewing angles from the side aren't as good as IPS. (although why would you look at your monitor at an extreme angle?).

Pretty happy for the price.

P.S. If you wall mount, you have to take off the round stand bracket, which seems to expose the inside of the monitor. It is not dust tight, so I do wonder what will happen if dust gets inside the electronics over time. Will probably rig some kind of dust sleeve between the mount and monitor.

Got my 49" Dark Matter today. Package was beat up, there were scratches on the red bezel and black plastic parts on the back... and it would not power up. DOA. What a shame. Monoprice says refund only, so I now have to wait two weeks for the credit hit my card.
Weird got one that looked almost new but needs calibration for sure and quite a bit of ghosting

Got my 34" Dark Matter last night...

So the main issue was that in the bag of monitor screws, there was only one screw and you need two to connect the adapter to the stand! That might be why somebody sent it back because if you don't have one that will fit the hole you can only secure the display with one screw. I got lucky and found one that was close enough that worked.

So no dead pixels! Yay!

No flickering with Gsync enabled. I set the response time to "middle" and then the ghosting went to minimal and no inverse ghosting! I have been impressed.

I had to lower the brightness as it was blinding me at the out of box "standard" setting. I tried HDR and that looks good as well even if 400 is kind of entry level HDR. I had no smearing or flickering. I have yet to try in game. The only game I have tried so far is GTAV and it has been amazing so far.

I have Colormunki Smile and so I will do some calibration later today to dial in the best settings. I found a good place to use for baseline settings. At the below link:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawid..._settings/

So for $299 I couldn't be happier so far.

FYI If you go the the monoprice product page for this display it says

https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=40776

"Discontinued"

So that is why they were trying to unload these I guess....

The monitor 'new' is discontinued. They're designing a new dark matter display now with 165hz refresh. But yes, they do still have some open box dark matter 34" for $350

Got my 35" today, I opened the box and was immediately surprised by a few pubic hair. Had to disinfect the area. The monitor definitely needed to be returned as it has one clump of dead pixels on the screen.
