I swear these are $699 every few months. Makes me think the MSRP is just for FOMO.

And for those that can't replicate a theater in their home, these 280fa provide a quality entry into that experience. For the price and quality, it's hard to beat this(frequently posted) SD. Just trying to provide some useful detail for those looking for some insight.

Bought these and the 440c center last time they were on sale. Extremely happy with them coming from my Andrew Jones pioneers (which are great for the price)

Before buying the Klipsch set, I did some research and found a lot of people saying they were bright and fatiguing on the ears. This was absolutely true until I re-ran audyssey. That toned down the highs a lot.

So after snagging these, I'll then need a center channel, a sub, and two rear speakers + the receiver, correct?

I just bought a pair of the RP-8000F for $800 in the deal a few days ago. Should I return them and get a pair of these for $699 instead? Seems like these are exactly the same, but with bonus up firing speakers.
The upfiring speakers are garbage. I have these as my mains, tried out the upfiring and they make no difference whatsoever. I got some RP-500SA and mounted them as front elevations and they are MUCH better.

How much will it cost you to ship these back? As far as I know Adorama return shipping is on you.

Does anyone know how these compare to Polk Monitor 70s Series 1? Wondering if it's worth the upgrade.

Any recommendations for a good pair for surround, center channel, and sub that will go with these?

Thanks!

I too am wondering if this is an actual upgrade from my LSIM703s for primary music and TV watching, or would this be a down/sidegrade for music listening.

These are better IMO. the polks are kinda bottom of the barrel from my experience. I currently run a pair of LSiM 705s and from what I've seen you have to step up to that quality line to get decently made speakers from polk. Klipsch isn't worlds better but they're definitely a step up. I wish they made a 3 way center, but otherwise you should just look at klipsch's site and see which center and surrounds in the RP line work best for your room and/or which you can get for the best deal.

LSiM line has significantly better build quality than the RP line. Again, just my opinion. you'd have to step up to the RFs to get a similar quality. Tonality and voicing are a bit more subjective but the polks definitely measure flatter and have better dispersion from what I remember. the biggest difference is bookshelf vs full range and the sensitivity of the Klipsch. you'll get much "more" sound for the same wattage from the 280s. if I had a good sub I wouldn't jump ship, but sometimes you just get the itch, right?

How would these work if I just want them for a stereo setup to go with my vintage amp (Pioneer SX-780) and a turntable, solely for listening to records?

I got in on this deal a few months ago. I didn't think I could live with cherry in my theater space. I planned to buy the black faux wood vinyl wrap to finish them. Now that I've had them for awhile, the cherry finish doesn't draw my attention at all.

The picture does reflect a bit off the speaker sides, but I only notice it if I look at the speaker. It's not distracting to me. I think even with the black vinyl wrap, it's going to reflect similarly. So I'm okay with the cherry finish.

I would suggest anyone in the fence because of the cherry finish to get them and know you could add a black wrap for not much more.

I don't use the Atmos up firing speakers. I already had 4 on the ceiling for Atmos. I thought the price was decent enough to buy and not use the built-in Atmos speakers.

On paper they may be almost the same, having heard them side by side they don't sound the same IMO.

It's said the newer models helps with the brightness, I would agree BUT for me it was a subtle difference.
The 8000's had more depth/body to them also.
If they have all the exact same components(I have no idea or care) my only guess is the 8000's have more cabinet space due to not having a built in module.

How well the built in modules will perform will vary widely from person to person. IMO not worth it and one reason we were comparing them.

As someone pointed out you have pay to return them back which will probably cost you close to the $100 difference.

Unless you knew the build in modules worked for you well, I doubt it's worth the hassle iMO.

Hope this helps and good luck.

So you would rather spend $100 more for essentially the same speaker, rather than just not use the Atmos module on these if you dislike them so much?
The 8000 series produce a slightly better listening experience(vented horn), imo. If I had the choice, I would chose the 8000 series over the 820 series for that price difference. I own a pair of 820F @ $732.
