I swear these are $699 every few months. Makes me think the MSRP is just for FOMO.

And for those that can't replicate a theater in their home, these 280fa provide a quality entry into that experience. For the price and quality, it's hard to beat this(frequently posted) SD. Just trying to provide some useful detail for those looking for some insight.

Bought these and the 440c center last time they were on sale. Extremely happy with them coming from my Andrew Jones pioneers (which are great for the price)

Before buying the Klipsch set, I did some research and found a lot of people saying they were bright and fatiguing on the ears. This was absolutely true until I re-ran audyssey. That toned down the highs a lot.

Maybe driver construction is a wash, but cabinet construction (bracing, materials and their dimensions, lacquer vs veneer, grille construction and materials, binding posts, etc.), fit and finish, everything else is nicer on the polks. if you've got evidence to show that I'm wrong, lemme know.

I currently have:
Klipsch F3s mains,
Klipsch Reference R-52C center channel
Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-140SA Dolby Atmos Speakers
Polk LCi80s rears (in ceiling)
Klipsch Sub 12
Velodyne Wireless sub (10")

The F3s are huge and do not match (visually or timbrally). Is it in my best interest to swap out for these? Will I see an improvement (and in what way) over the F3s and RP-140SAs?

Thanks!

I thought 280 and 8000 are essentially the same.
Same speakers but different cabinets.

8000s have an upgraded design on tweeter cone -- "Hybrid Cross-Section Tractrix® Horn"
8000s have upgraded "CAST ALUMINUM FEET"
8000s claim to have a higher end furniture finish.

Upgrades to cabinet should offer a better sound and higher quality build.
The internal speakers are the same though yes (obviously, 280s add the atmos speakers on top, this is the biggest different).

Yes, and it can utilize Atmos in a 5.1.2 system. The .2 being the Atmos modules built into these speakers.

Beware - These are likely damaged goods. I bought a pair of RP800Fs from a similar deal last week and received heavily damaged package and speaker themselves has cracks and broken baseplate.

You must have gotten a lemon...I've purchased quite a few speakers from Adorama (Thanks, Iconian... Smilie ) and they've all been in fine shape - not a scratch on anything.

I was hoping it was a lemon. But the replacement they sent had even worse damages. Contacted Adorama support and they say it is likely they can get damaged during shipping. So I decided to send it all back and be done with it. Two weeks of to and fro with Adorama and shipping. Way better peace of mind if i just go and get it from a brick and mortar shop. Dearly miss Fry's.

Well, that sucks...too bad....guess I got lucky...but I've gotten 3 different pair of speakers from them in the past 9 mo...all were perfect. They used to use an outer shipping box in addition to the 'normal' box, but I've noticed that's gone by the wayside...

Same speakers..
Incorrect. Both 280F and 8000F use a molded, rubber/silicon insert on the horn. However, the 8000F compression driver is vented and sounds a little smoother. The difference is subtle but noticeable. The 280F does not.

I'll be specific. You compared the RP line to the RF line, saying RF line was better. That is completely bass ackwards. The RP line is head and shoulders above the RF line.

Which RP speakers are better made or sounding than the RF-7 III?

zmt, I'm very sorry. I thought I was speaking of the reference line (R). Please disregard my previous posts correcting you. You are absolutely correct.
