i reuse the white plastic thing and the dome and buy sponges on amazon.

these are the ones i bought last time. i normally sprout the seeds and then use a knife to slit the sponge and lay the seed in.

Aerogarden experts, any tips on the best DIY recommendations to save money on pods? Would love to grow cherry tomatoes, saw a few youtube videos and it doesn't seem impossibly hard to replace the grow sponge and get a few seeds myself.

Reviews are a bit mixed, hard to tell if the people complaining did something wrong or if they got bad kits in the first place.

Not everyone has a green thumb. Too much water or no water at all. You also need to keep them at the right temperature or else they go bad or don't grow at all. This set just gives it light to grow indoor, everything else you need to do on your own.

I would try a determinate dawrf variant, cherry tomatoes will grow taller than these lights pretty fast.

If you want to try out hydroponics, this would be perfect for leafy greens and herbs. Flowering plants will get too tall but if you are determined to try it out, I would look into kratky method to start your hydroponics journey.
