Been searching for an espresso machine and this one has decent reviews and saw this price drop. I have a seperate grinder and prefer machines where its not an all in one. Been using a moka pot for many years.

I've put my eye on this machine for a while, but I've read reviews from presumably knowledgeable people about the steam preasure being too strong. Tha it makes a mess and doesn't froth well. And there's no way of regulating the steam preasure. Any thoughts?

Hmm interesting, I searched on reddit and it seems to be fairly decent as an entry level model. I'm not an expert and don't have it yet but it checked the boxes for me and the price was right. Only con i saw was the portafilter has 3 ears vs 2, so people were having difficulty finding a matching basket/bottomless whatever that means. I just want some stronger coffee and something simple. This thing has an on/off button and 1 2 shots, which can be programmed for different times but thats all I was looking for nothing fancy.

Steam pressure and coffee was good the two weeks I had it. Was able to have good micro foam. I returned it though because the usability sucked, that turning knob thing was extremely confusing and I kept making mistakes. Bought another Breville instead.

In my opinion, go for a refurbished one that grinds the beans, otherwise it becomes a mess maker. I have a Saeco Intuitia that I got for probably $175, and its taken a little simple repair, to keep going over the years (microswitches don't like steam for many years), but it's worth it to just press the button and get a double shot made to your calibration. The shorter the extract time you set, the better the flavor. That's the secret. For cleanup, you empty the puck bin and the water tray. No mess from a grinder and from manually loading and dumping pucks.

Lots of reliability questions here. Buy once cry once. If you want to get into the espresso game, Gaggia Classic Pro is the way to go in my opinion. I know it costs twice as much, but it's user serviceable and can last forever.
