Bought this exact set a year or so ago on clearance. I bought two of them so that wife and I could take our two kids and try out camping and this kit is great for testing if you like camping. camping can be a bit overwhelming to get started and this gets you a great base to not break the bank if you want to go spend a weekend camping. Sure it won't survive a monsoon, but it has been fine in showers. The sleeping bags are plastic-y, but are fine. They would be the first thing i'd suggest replacing. We used this kit, found out we love camping and have since upgraded everything. People will tell you how to spend buckets of money on the best gear, but for family camping trips, coleman and walmart crap is fine (and some really good).

What do you recommend for a better quality tent for four? (Next level from this). First time camper but want to buy good quality tent and other camping items. Kids still very young so don't want to take any chances. Thank you.

Coleman sundome has always been my go to for inexpensive car camping tent. Always used them as boy scouts, and will be using a >15yo one for a 2 night trip this coming weekend.

About 7y ago we were in a bad storm and my friends said there was about 2" of water runoff running right into the thing, and didn't have a drop inside.

As others have noted, aways put a tarp underneath, and a "3 person tent" is really a "2 people with gear" tent. I have a Coleman queen size air mattress that fits in my sundome 3 person with just barely enough room for 2 small weekend-size backpacks on the side of the mattress. Tight for my wife and I, but works, while perfect for an adult and a kid.

So, Coleman sundome 6 should be fine for family of 4.

If one of the kids is in a pack and play, or you want the dog in there too, the Coleman Montana 8 has served our 5 person family plus dog well. Harder to put up than sundome, but much more cubic footage inside.

Thank you very much. I probably should buy 6 person Coleman for 4 person then. Excellent suggestions , much appreciated. 👍

Best product photo is the man on one knee proposing to the woman with this cheap camping setup. Frugal and capable isn't a bad proposition.

It really depends on what you're trying to do: backpacking, car camping, glamping, etc.

We upgraded to a wal-mart 10=person easy up tent (~$150). The thing is huge, super easy to setup, and we have way more space than we need. We setup a queen inflatable for wife and I, and two twins for the kids. We are all about getting outdoors, but not roughing it. We rent a spot at a developed camp with showers and bathrooms. Our focus is all on hiking, playing, swimming outdoors, etc.. I want a great night of sleep, lots of room, and simple setup and this thing has been great.

As a side note, it doesn't matter what tent you get, some guy will say it leaks... Get some scotch guard and you'll be fine.

Not for nothing, but I visited a Walmart in Keller, TX Sunday morning to get some other items and at the front door they had a pallet of these for $50/each. I scooped the last one and have already stored it for if/when we may ever need it. Happy hunting!

This is something a UNC grad would ask. 😁😂
Maybe so, but perhaps they have a BS in philosophy with a minor in applied sarcasm?

Regardless, lets stick to facts that this person favors NCSU and is more likely to have graduated from there (or not...). Smilie

How so? It's a legit question for some. Ever come out in the morning and sometimes you notice the grass is wet and it didn't rain? It's called dew.

Well they're in the wilderness, so she could say 'no' to his proposal, but the thing is she's not going to say no. You know, because of the implication.

Yes, if you are carrying it in a bottle or other mode of transport.

I love how I got an alert about washer and dryers, clicked it, and it brought me here 🤣

Look for a tent tall enough to stand up in (at least in the center) with an easy-up exterior frame. The tent should have a rain fly that covers the sides nearly down to the ground for use if it rains hard. Use a cheap tarp the size of the tent for a ground cover underneath it. If the tarp is too big it will collect water and funnel it under the tent if it rains. Choose a tent size big enough for everyone to bed down with mats/pillows and extra room for some gear (including clothes, shoes/boots, and jackets) and stepping around each other. Use a small empty box to hold a bedside lantern, your cell phones, and needed toiletries/meds. Dangle another lantern from the top center but watch that you don't bump your head on it. Say your bedtime prayers out loud all together before you all fall asleep, and give thanks for the wonderful blessing of camping in God's great outdoors - even if it's only in your own back yard. Enjoy!
