If you want to avoid a sub, you want to spend more on floorstanding speakers instead of bookshelves.

I have some huge, 40+ pound floorstanding speakers in my main room, they still greatly benefit from a sub, especially for movie content.

If I could do it all over again, I'd buy better bookshelf speakers and two subs. This is what I learned from my garage system as the bookshelf speakers with 5.25 inch woofers generally blend well with a 12 inch sub in-room.

So my suggestion: for the price of the floorstanding speakers anyone is looking at, spend it on bookshelf speakers, speaker stands, and a sub instead.

Had these before and if I didn't go the wireless route, I'd buy a few pairs right now. I chose the infinity 162's because the center channel RC263 had rave reviews. I JUST hooked it up and love it so far as I didn't previously have the space to install it as is in my home because it's a beast

I like Harman products but that Klipsch center with four 5.25" drivers is going to sound way better for HT than the JBL 520c with it's two little 4 inchers.
To be fair, it's like 2.5 times the speaker, in size and weight and 3 or 4 times the price.
By those metrics, the Infinity 263C is a beast, 3 way, heavy, and 2 6inch woofers, along with the mid and high. Just gotta wait for the next <$200 sale...

I absolutely love mine, paired with my current older Yamaha avr and svs pb1000 pro sub, they sound great and get plenty loud for me. As to the whole horn thing lol. It sounds good, I am not alone in thinking this. Entertaining thread though, thanks to the OP for the heads up. I am very pleased

I lusted after the 263 forever, I missed one sale a while ago and it seems to never come back. I will just add O got the rc252 last time it was ~100 bucks and it sounds great as well, granted Im sure the 263 blows it away, but it seems like it will never go on sale again (given Murphy's law, it will go on sale AS I post this lol)

The benefits of a larger tower is not really lower bass extension, it's the sensitivity. Most towers use the same exact drivers as their bookshelf counterparts. The bigger enclosure makes it more sensitive, which makes them far easier to drive to higher levels. The difference between 87-88db and 97-98db sensitivity is huge; you'd need 10x the power to get them to equal levels. (These are 86db, honestly terrible for home theater use.)

The idea that towers are meant to replace a sub is flawed, but towers still have an advantage.

Best to keep the towers, add subs, then cross them at ~60-80hz.

Horns aren't the issue. Compression drivers are. These CDs are harsh. They're good for movies, but not great for music.

Ya except I think he's talking about the center.

It's weird how the center as almost same specs as the floorstanding, dual 6inch, 1 inch 5 mid and single tweeter so 4 speakers total but different weights.

You can probably just buy 3 of the floorstanders or centers depending on whichever one is on sale and is easier to place. At least with the floorstanding ones don't need to buy a stand.

I got my 530 pair a couple days ago. However, when I compare these with my infinity P363 towers I got a few years back (also at discount), these speakers don't sound that great, there's no sparkle and openness that's in the infinity towers. Any idea if these need to be broken in or something ? if so, for how long? thanks in advance.

Is this overkill if used on a computer? I currently have Sony SSCS5 3-Way 3-Driver Bookshelf Speaker that I got for $77 last year, which sound pretty good. I only wish they had a little bit more of a thump to them.

Damn.. the temptation of all these JBL and Infinity speakers are tempting me. My ears have always loved their speakers. I used to have the L890s and loved them so. Sadly tough times required sacrifice.

These aren't even 6 inch woofers, I'd look elsewhere if you want to upgrade, like Polk S20 or what about just getting only an inline sub to upgrade your Sony's? Monoprice sub $100 one?

But too expensive now

Interesting. Monoprice wasn't even on my radar for sub. I'll wait for the next sale from them. I got a cheap 100w Amplifier for the PC that unfortunately doesn't have a sub in. I need to find an alternative once I get a sub: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072Q157FY
