In theory; yes. In practice, no.

Apple TV can play Atmos, but only when it’s sent via a lossless container (DD+ or E-AC3). On Plex, if you have Atmos it’s because you ripped a disc, and therefore the Atmos is on the lossless Dolby TrueHD, which the Apple TV can’t read. So plex transcodes to Flac (still lossless, but you lose the Atmos metadata)

No passthrough. No deinterlacing support. My two main issues with Plex on Apple TV.
06-14-2021 at 06:36 PM
I use Infuse to connect to Plex on Apple TV. I believe that does the trick. Or I use Nvidia Shield and then Plex directly.

Yes I have the older 4K and atmos is worth it if you have the speakers.

The “older” 4K model decodes ATMOS so if that is all you are looking for, save yourself some $$

It works better than Smart TV interface and allows casting of Apple devices seamlessly onto your screen

It has other apps beyond entertainment and can have a game controller paired with it. It has Air play 2 for seamless streaming of Macs or iOS devices desktop to the TV. I can pair it with HomePods and soon with HomePod Minis, to create an Atmos surround environment. I can use two sets of BT headphones to watch a movie with a friend in quiet. Oh and it can also act as a home hub, allowing you to do things like see whose at your front door, turn off lights, and the like.

If you are already in the Apple ecosystem ( iPhone, mac, etc.) Apple TV will allow you to seamlessly wireless connect to these devices so you can view your computer screen on your TV, control it via remote app on your phone, etc. Also, IMO, the apple TV user interface looks nicer and feels easier to navigate than Amazon.s interface. The sticks from my experience has been laggy and lacking in power because they are so small. If you are happy with the cheaper options then by all means that's the way to go.

I have a Roku 4K and the new Apple TV… The Apple TV is significantly better in pretty much every area.

No it does not, at least not in the Apple apps.

That's the HD model. Not the 4k.
Not sure what Slickdeals is doing jacking up the links but I just bought a 32GB unit but now it looks like it may not be available anymore (after I just bought it).

Search Costco for "Apple 4k". Looks like the 64GB is still available. And yes, these are the new ones with A12 processor and the significantly improved remote.
10 bux isn't enough to make me jump to upgrade my existing 4K ATV's.

dang bought one from BB and wont get a price match bc they cant see the price. Ill have to go in store.
Side note, if you use apple its kinda a must have. If you are into games go for the 64, otherwise the 32 should be fine.
Controller support is easy. Also look at best buy open box. They are like new and I saw it for 179.
