Considering getting one for my LG CX to get HBO Max in 4k HDR. Are there any benefits to using this over built-in apps on a modern smart TV?

Same question here. I have an older Apple TV that is connected to a Amazon fire TV and rarely gets use except for content from Apple TV. I don't have plus any longer. Really trying to understand the Apple TV application use cases with smart tv

Privacy, mainly. Everything you do on your LG is tracked and sold to the highest bidder. But also HBO and Apple Music, which you don't get with LG.

It's up to you if the price is worthwhile for those benefits.

You get a "premium" experience and a device that should last for years with updates. And as someone mentioned, better privacy. You can also use the calibration that Apple TV 4K now offers. I generally find that built-in smart features of TVs suck and are slow... but hopefully it's better now but personally I still want the "premium" experience.

10 bux isn't enough to make me jump to upgrade my existing 4K ATV's.

I keep waiting for the previous 4K version to go on clearance. The new one is really not that much different as far I I can tell.

Just bought a house and have an additional tv I need to hook an ATV up to. Perfect timing… we needed to buy one anyway. Now to find a 77" LG OLED on the east coast for a good deal 👍

It's $149.97 on Costco.com... not a big enough discount if you ask me.

But don't forget the 5% back you can get with Discover... and extra 2% back if you have an Executive membership.

It's a much more pleasant experience that ties into your other Apple devices. It's not essential but it is really nice.

Hey! If you want to buy the 4 year old model with a crappy remote, we'll sell it to you for $20 less! That's a great deal, said no one ever.

I would also recommend getting the 64gb if you have a large Infuse library, my 32gb OG ATV 4K keeps running out of space due to large amounts of cached metadata. Definitely getting the 64gb when we upgrade.

I bought the 32gb unit the first time this came up. It must have been a pre-purchase thing, because it didn't come until the end of may. It works great, but setting it up was a pill because I had to add most all of my apps back in, and oddly enough it wouldn't accept my direct wired Internet connection. It was plugged in, but still wanted WiFi. Then like the next day it just changed itself. The new remote is harder for me to operate bc I'm so used to the last one and pushing the "Select" button w/o making the curser move or hitting one of those new buttons in the circle is difficult to me. I'm sure I'll get used to it. Just be sure that it has the A12 processor. I see people listing the 4th edition as the 5th. The Costco deal is the 5th edition.

Is this worth it just to get so I can finally get atmos into my receiver?
Yes I have the older 4K and atmos is worth it if you have the speakers.

Never heard atmos, but receiver/speakers have it. Maybe I should just get it to just have whenever I watch movie. I don't think a lot of movies are even atmos on Netflix
