I'm guessing a fire or short of some sort, but is it personal experience. A bunch of reviews stating something? Etc? Need more details to explain why such a negative comment.

I am fairly confident (but not 100%) that it is not possible to mfi certify a usb charger alone. It simply wouldn't be able to be certified unless connected to a phone (through a lightning cable) in which case the charger is now a component in an overall solution and cannot be certified by itself.
