Pay with your Chase Southwest Credit Card to get the 50x points per $
Giftcards qualify. Buy a $100 gift card, get 5000 points (worth ~$50, maybe more). I'm in.
Good catch. But any risk of the transaction date falling outside the window (Friday)?

Think I'll just buy a flight... can always cancel and spend over the year

I guess this is a safe purchase.

Really? You connected your card to two different RR accounts? Do tell.

I'm not sure about other travel points programs, but I love how flexible SW RR are. Price goes down. rebook, and get points back. Cancel last minute. Get points back.
Other travel points programs... suck. Even trying to buy a ticket..."Oh sorry, no rewards seats left for that flight".

Came just in time. Still need 4200 points for my companion pass. Now I only have to spend $85 instead $4000.

The devaluation was 6%, and the previous value was about 1.6 cents, so more like 1.5 cents, or $75.

But as noted, the real value comes in not paying some taxes. So a $49 flight costs close to 3000 points, or over 1.6 cents per point.

More expensive flights are proportionately more points.
You still have to pay taxes when booking a flight with RR points.

You still have to pay SOME fees... airport fees and TSA fees. But you don't have to pay some taxes... that's why the price in points is not proportional.

A $50 ticket has about $17 in taxes. I know because they suspended these taxes for 2020 due to Covid, and the new price showed up on my existing tickets.

Price two different tickets in points and cash and you will see the difference in the value of the points. This is the reason.

No Mr Snark. The original question was ""$100 per RR account? or $100 per card?"
Your INCORRECT response was "Per card. Each card is only linked to one account."
In a lot of cases a SD will have both the business and the personal card. For this promo it is limited to a bonus of 5000 points per account. So I can do it on either my business card or my personal card but not both, so it is most definitely not "per card". Hope I explained it in a matter you can understand..

These are probably bonus points so they don't count towards companion pass.

Edit: Apparently they do count so that's a good surprise.

Sorry you're correct. I'm very surprised since bonus points usually don't count.

Note that it will take about 2 months for the bonus point to post to your account versus normal spending. The last time that verbiage was used it was 60 days exactly for my bonus to post..

Bonus points from spending usually do count towards CP. Bonus points from flying don't count towards anything...TQP or CP.

In general, it's easy to get CP points, but hard to get A-list TQP. Guess they'd rather give away free seats than free Internet. 🤔

$5.60 one way each domestic ticket. None of which goes to Southwest.

Yeah, that's the TSA 9/11 fee I mentioned. I'm talking about much larger taxes that are shown in your ticket price breakdown after your buy the ticket.

Don't believe me? Buy a ticket and find out.
