I'm confused where people get their HP batteries from... are they the same as the 4 ah batteries? I thought HP batteries were different and make brushless run better.

You are correct - HP batteries are different and they do make brushless run better. The HP batteries have more connectors on them to deliver more power to brushless devices. All brushless will run on all batteries, but they do run better with HP batteries. Most tools I can't tell a difference but my brushless circular saw is noticeably more powerful when using the HP battery.

Also, non brushless tools will run with HP batteries, they are 'backwards compatible'
