We already have k-cups and 2 types of nespresso, some other no name brands, and now Lavazza has their own blue machine? Way to go proprietary...

Unlike K-cups these lavazza blue capsules are not in local stores and I have to always buy directly from them or from Amazon.

All capsule systems are proprietary, but once the patent runs out 3rd party brands make compatible capsules. That's why you can't buy 3rd party Nespresso VertuoLine capsules yet. Keurig tried to get all proprietary with 2.0 capsules but that flopped for them and they backed off.

Lavazza BLUE has been around since 2003 so it's not new at all. There are other 3rd party BLUE compatible brands (Bristot, Kimbo, Pera, etc) but not many. You have to find them on the web. Bristot is available on Amazon (for now). I usually stick to the Lavazza capsules anyway. To me, the Lavazza BLUE espresso tastes better than any other capsule espresso system.

The new Lavazza Expert espresso system is compatible with Expert and BLUE capsules as the capsules are the same. Lavazza chose not to create an entirely new proprietary capsule for their new line.

I'm for trying the Gold Selection. My Lavazza is way better than my Nespresso and there are typically great deals where I was resorting to third party Nespresso pods for deals that really weren't that great.

The Cafe Crema is 100% and cheaper. I honestly just went for the more expensive one haha. There's a table towards the bottom of the Amazon listing that compares all of them.

Is cafe crema and cafe cema dolce the same?
I have 2 cases of crema dolce still but if cafe crema is different I might pull the trigger.

For those interested the cafe crema and cafe crema dolce not sure if they are the exact same but certainly very similar. Both 9 grams of 100% arabica. The source for the arabica could be different but seem very similar in taste and stats.
