Quote from Richcrisps :
Italy is currently in an emergency state as the country is emerging from a lockdown that lasted for two months after it battled with a third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the end of March this year, the country introduced a mandatory quarantine requirement to all arrivals from a European country. Whereas, on April 7, the advice was extended to arrivals from anywhere in the world who were permitted to enter the country under the entry ban exemptions list.American citizens can only enter Italy as well, provided they are travelling by using 'Covid-tested' flights. On flights which are identified during the purchase phase with the name "Covid-Tested", only passengers who test negative for Covid-19 are allowed to board, after having carried out a rapid or molecular antigen test (RT PCR) taken via swab within 48 hours of boarding.fill in a self-declaration and passenger locator form, and undergo a second test upon arrival at the airport.the prohibition on traveling from Italy to the United States remains unchanged unless for essential reasons that cannot be deferred. Leisure travelers will not be admitted into Italy on any other flight.

After July 2, travellers on "COVID-tested" flights only need to take one test 48h before their final leg to Italy and one test upon arrival in Italy.

Italy is undesirably hot during this time. Air conditioning isn't as prevalent as the US. Just make sure know what you're getting into.

I spent 3 weeks in Italy in July a few years ago. Yes it got hot but only up to 100 (In Tuscany), so still cooler than many Southern States. And if you stay up North or in costal cities the weather will be cooler. It was only hot for us in Rome and Tuscany and pleasant in Venice, the Amalfi Coast, Sardinia, Cinque Terre, Parma and Modena. All of our hotels and Airbnb's had air conditioning.

Much more tempting if this was a non-US based carrier. US carriers are bad enough with domestic flights. No way would I fly them leaving the country. Poor service, inconsistent help when you need it, delays, small seats, old planes.

And this flight is not one of them. No COVID-tested flights from the west coast.

All flights from the West Coast make a stop on the East Coast.
