I just picked up the alpha A7R Mark ii on Friday and I paid about that amount. Open box at Bestbuy I also paid 587 for the 24-70 mm zeiss lens and over the weekend picked up the 16 mm pancake lens for 250, I am content for now.
FYI that 50mm lens is slowest to focus that I've seen in last 15 years. It's super noisy too if you plan to do video with autofocus, hard pass
Agreed, I had that lens, the guy who sold it to me (used) even disclosed that openly - it is really slow to focus, like 1-2 seconds sometimes, and you can indeed hear the motor; it is very quiet, but not silent - I bought the Sigma 56mm f1.4 for 3x the price then resold this lens.
Anyone know if the 85mm F1.8 is also slow-focusing and noisy?

The 85mm is fast and silent. Great lens with some chromatic aberration .

Seconded! The Sony 85 1.8 is one of their best bang for the buck lenses in Sony's lineup. I own the lens and its great for the price. Its no G-Master but is also a fraction of the cost.
It won't work even if you have an edu email. They use SheerID to verify your student status which involves uploading a photo of your student ID.
Yeah I was able to get my old edu email forwarded but you're right you have to upload photoid and transcript to show that you're active within last 3 months. Any work-around for this?
