Agreed, I had that lens, the guy who sold it to me (used) even disclosed that openly - it is really slow to focus, like 1-2 seconds sometimes, and you can indeed hear the motor; it is very quiet, but not silent - I bought the Sigma 56mm f1.4 for 3x the price then resold this lens.
Anyone know if the 85mm F1.8 is also slow-focusing and noisy?
Yeah I was able to get my old edu email forwarded but you're right you have to upload photoid and transcript to show that you're active within last 3 months. Any work-around for this?
No, they got tired of people scamming them with purchased edu emails and decided to actually restrict it to students.
Anyone know how I can go about getting an edu email? I'm alumni now but no longer have access to my old edu email
Sign up for a class at a community college, stay enrolled long enough to get the authentication then drop the class before the tuition refund period is up. Or you might find you enjoy the class and want to stay in until completed.
The point of these sales are for film/photography students to be able to get relevant gear at a discount while keeping general profits high.
From a money standpoint stricter edu policy means higher average prices since most people can't get the lower price but will buy anyway.
The 50mm is a standard old school double gauss nifty fifty. If you want something equivalent, you can grab one of the canon's for cheap, and a sigma MC-11 adapter. Works well and you can adapt other lenses that way.
Been waiting for the 35mm 1.4 GM to get an EDU discount. I know it's a new lens but any idea how long it typically takes to join the party? The 14mm 1.8 GM is even newer and that one's already got an EDU discount of 10%.
