This pricing/marketing strategy is really working out for Harmon.
1. Set the price way higher than the product is worth
2. Have a "sale" on them every month so slickdeals picks it up
3. Profit
I honestly think they would sell fewer units if their speakers were just always at this price.
Heh. Yeah. I'll admit that I'm a bit of a JBL fanboy, but I'm a fan of stuff that doesn't suck. I would jump ship in an instant if I could get into some Revel F208's with a couple Rythmik 18's. Oh man. The wife would kill me. But it is easier to apologize rather than to ask for permission. Right?
You sound like a salesman for jbl. 🤪

I have been looking for a new center channel to replace my Walmart "complete surround sound speaker set for $100" one I still have. I already have some (IMHO) nice 8" in wall JBL surround speakers I have purchased on sale previously. Would this center Chanel do the trick? I understand it's not earth-shattering but I don't need top of the line, just considerably better than I have
I also need to replace the sub woofer from that same set, not sure if the one here would work

If you have a decent av receiver, yes this center channel speaker will work. I haven't personally used this center speaker but I guess its a good one for the job.
How does the subwoofer quality? Any owners care to comment?
Its built very well. The components are the best part. It's a very dense and heavy cabinet. The 10" driver has pretty decent excursion for it's size, and the amp is pretty spectacular. The sealed nature makes port chuffing impossible, which plagues all lower cost subs. Now the downsides. It becomes inaudible below 30Hz despite moving a ton, they are very position dependant, and they may be a bit less loud compared to a low cost ported sub. But they are by far the best subwoofer for music. I have two of them beside my 590's and a svs sb2000pro for the gut punching 18Hz stuff. Still, bang for buck, the 550p is great.

These have been around a long time and JBL has paid off the R&D cost long ago.
It helps they have a big fanatic fan base but I would agree these sale prices are on par of their worth.
Can't tell how many times I've helped people "upgrade" from these, when asked why:
everyone said they "measure" well or they had so many great reviews.
Funny thing is they usually don't actually upgrade its more a lateral move.
what's the word on this sub? i have the 530s and looking for something to give some low end punch.
This 550p is a sealed 10" sub that's listed only down to 27hz, not sure what you consider "low end punch".
In my experience this is not really gonna give you that.
