You have to act fast, this will sell out soon. AMD chipset laptops are in a shortage anyway, so cant image this being in stock much longer.

Although few things to keep in mind:

1. The battery life is AMAZING according to reviews, it cant get any better for a gaming machine.

2. The thermals are amazing and impressive given the form factor

3. NO WEBCAM (huge for me), no numpad (the trackpad also doesnt have a digital numpad like other ROG Strix Scar laptops)

4. The HDMI port is connected to iGPU rather than dGPU so you have a limited HDMI 2.0 connection instead of HDMI 2.1

Where this laptop really shines is QHD resolution. At FHD it is kinda limited in performance. So any kind of gaming where you are connecting it to an external monitor with QHD or higher resolution, this is A BEAST for the price.

Really wish the style was toned down a bit, so I could use in professional settings.

got this deal + $120 back from Amex. 32gb of RAM. Should I cancel??
I posted that deal. Even with the Amex offer, I feel this is a better deal. Although it depends on your preferences (numpad, aesthetics, webcam, etc.).

Personally, I use libraries (and DL models) which use some Nvidia tech which is missing on AMD gpus or not well supported so that also becomes a factor.

USB Type C is DP1.4 and I think it's wired to directly to dGPU

Replace the ram in this with some with better timings and you're buying 3080 laptop performance + 12gb VRAM instead of 8gb for the cost of a 3060 laptop.
I have never dialed customer support to cancel my order faster in my life lmao. I have no idea about the strengths of Radeon graphics cards compared to the newer RTX cards so I appreciate the advice.

Yes, so probably would need some dongle if your monitor/TV doesnt have USB-C input.

Oh wow.. they really did make it gaudy and hideous didn't they? My white G14 is so clean and I specifically love that there is no huge logo on the lid.. but they apparently missed their own branding and .. vomited it into this lid. Frown

I just got an ROG STRIX G17 with a Ryzen 9 5900HX, RTX 3060, 1TB SSD, and 16GB RAM
Total cost was around $1800 after taxes + shipping
I'm wondering whether I should cancel my order and go for this instead, though…
Any suggestions?
I am not sure if you saw the other reply, but I got confused for a second thinking he was referring to the laptop you purchased but I believe he was referring to the laptop in this thread. I would return the 3060 laptop you bought and get this. Regardless of ram replacement this laptop is going to out perform the laptop you bought for gaming. $1800 for a 3060 graphics card laptop to me seems oddly overpriced. I'm not super current on prices right now but this is more powerful for less money (and even more powerful for the same price if you use the cost difference to buy new ram). Hope that helps

My guess is AMD's FSR will be more widely adopted due to it being easier to develop for from what I hear, it's in both the consoles and compatible with Nvidia GPUs including their 10 series. I think Nvidia will be very resistant in optimizing for it on their cards tho as they wanna push the DLSS narrative as long as they can. Meanwhile, AMD's architectures RDNA2/RDNA3 will be built to utilize FSR the best. DLSS will be killed off unless they make it more open source or they'll have to keep paying developers make their games compatible with it. All of this means long term AMD GPUs will age better due to FSR being more widely adopted.

Am I reading it righton pass mark? This Ryzen 9 performs as powerful as a desktop i9 10900k? That's insane given the TDP disparities and 2 extra cores on the i9.

These laptops have design flaws that hinder their performance BADLY.

https://videocardz.com/newz/asus-...gpu-switch

At STOCK it performs similarly to a lower power laptop with a 3060.

You need to use an external monitor and upgrade the ram to actually make use of the hardware.

Upgrading the ram is one thing, but the fact you lose 17% performance without using an external monitor is atrocious.

Because of the inherent flaws with this laptop at stock, I really would not recommend it. Wait for another similar model to come out that doesnt require you to use an external monitor or upgrade your ram to get the performance you are paying for.

Ladies and gentlemen this is the MSRP price correct.??? So why buy now instead of later? These are just being released. How many nits is the lcd screen? 250? They will sell out and then there will be more coming even with the cpu/gpu shortages as Taiwan ramps up production. If this was let's say 1400.... or even 100 dollars off msrp then i would maybe get it. No webcam and microphone bother me a bit. You got limited keys here and that's annoying. No keypad. for 1753 after tax, holy Molly.....i expect a little more. That is just my personal opinion. On the other hand, this is a very nice laptop. It is not as bulky as others.... decisions, decisions. Did you guys bite?
