If competitors google & amazon are making these for pennies and handing them out like candy idk why anyone would buy these. For $99 i expect something more substantial~
Amazon gives away speakers, they want that sweet sweet data of yours.

Holding out for $75ish. Even 2 of these won't touch a OG HomePod on sound quality.

I'm about to put a tv over my fireplace with a mantlemount pull down mount. We use an Apple TV for everything. Would these be decent wireless speakers for the left and right of the tv?

Edit for casual living room viewing. We have have a beefy OLED theater ish setup elsewhere
They will. For now you have to manually select them as an output each time. This fall you'll be able to set them as the default.

I bet everyone knows, but...."HomePod mini has been a hit since its debut last fall, offering customers amazing sound, an intelligent assistant, and smart home control all for just $99. We are focusing our efforts on the mini model. We are discontinuing the original HomePod, it will continue to be available while supplies last through the Apple Online Store, Apple Retail Stores, and Apple Authorized Resellers. Apple will provide customers with software updates and service and support through Apple Care".

I wonder if the always great Apple support will provide updates to this so-so speaker.

Regarding Amazon, the newer 4th Generation ECHO is a far superior speaker and more versatile, IMHO. https://www.amazon.com/All-New-Ec...aht&sr=1-3
Apple routinely provides updates for discontinued products for several years after the actual discontinuation date.

Finally got one a couple weeks ago for our workout room, sound is pretty good for the price, just wish it went louder than it does.

Yes, and Apple just announced that the new tvOS in the fall will have support for dual HomePod mini playback.

So, it might be a while before you can use them with that setup but it will eventually work out Smilie

(I'm only like 60% sure it wouldn't work already, so maybe look into it elsewhere as well)

Because there are a bunch of people who drink the Apple flavored Kool-Aid and will overpay for anything of that flavor.

So you overpay for a product AND let Apple sell your info? Do you really believe they don't do the same thing? (Always follow the money)
You have to trust someone and from Apples track record they seem to be on the side of protecting users data.

I wonder if Target or Best Buy can price match this 🤔
Best buy can IF you present them with you Sam's Club member card and show them the price. Worked there for 5 years and did it all the time. If they refuse just wander over to a new department. This is allowed but not every employee knows

I've never understood this mentality. You really and truly sound like a child when you talk like this. If you are, congrats you're likely to grow out of it.

I picked up one of these recently. Sound quality is impressive considering its size. Only complaint is that Siri is almost completely useless.

Can you explain? Alexa is annoying the crap out of me, I am looking for a reason to scrap them all.
Amazon shares your internet connection to anyone with an amazon device nearby, they also track your every move and sell that data and use it to advertise to you.
So far, Apple doesnt.

Having had both, prefer the mini. I did not notice a huge difference in sound quality, and the mini takes up a lot less room.

That being said, if you already have the full size HomePod, you would want to stay with it so they can work in stereo. You can only do stereo in two Homepods, or two HomePod Minis, not in one of each.
I have one of each as well, and there is a significant difference in sound quality between the two. The mini still sounds pretty good for its size, but it's no match for the original HomePod.
I also missed out on picking up a 2nd HomePod...
