I've had the Midea version for a year and its not the best. It is quieter than almost all window mount units, but it has a tendency to make weird sounds that are normally drowned out, so if you're picky about sound when you're trying to sleep (like I am) that could be a problem.

In terms of actual issues, by the end of last summer the blower fan started to make a horrible squeaking sound. I didn't do anything with it at the time, but when I set it up again this week it was the first thing I heard on startup, and sounded even worse. After some disassembly I determined it was the bearing on the fan's motor. They go for like 10 for $10 on Amazon, and another $20-30 for a tool to remove the old one, or you could replace the whole motor. The actual replacement motor unit from Midea is about $50, but backordered until October. I took a chance and bought one on eBay that's making its way to me from China now.

The unit likes to disappear from the app a lot, and its kind of a pain to link them together.

The 8000 BTU has a loud beep whenever you press any button or perform anything in the app. Like, loud enough I can hear it almost anywhere in the house loud. When I had the unit apart to get to the motor I took the time to fill up the little speaker with super glue and add some tape on top to dampen it some, which helped. The higher BTU units can disable the sound via a setting in the app.

The air flap sometimes needs help opening all the way up.

FYI: I don't believe Danby is a true manufacturer of anything....just a brand label, so it's probably the exact same as the Midea version.

For those that have a window unit like this, how easy is it to install/remove every season? Michigan winters means I can't leave this in year round

I don't know who still makes them anymore... but back in mid-1990s, I had a window AC unit that also did heat. It was perfect for a semi-walkup basement rec room that the house's HVAC couldn't really reach. It was small enough for me to install with the help of the neighbor's high school kid. I left the unit in the window all year long. It was purchased from a store called Hechingers.(those on the East Coast should know)

Some friedrich kuhl models have both heat and ac. I have them at my workplace. Great for those really cold days when your regular heating source isn't enough

Very simple. Leave the part you screw in to the window frame attached. Remove the two screws for the mount that hangs outside. Takes just a few minutes. Highly recommend the midea

In for one. My wife and I just bought a house with an uninsulated sunroom and it gets hot as hell. We may aim for a mini split installed down the road but for now this will (hopefully) do the trick.

The sunroom is 18 x 12 - they say 8000btu is good up to 350 sq ft? Does that track?
You should never install an AC unit in an uninsulated room, you're just blowing cash out the window.

I'm going to try this thing out and see how it does. Costco return policy makes it a lot more palatable!

That is for the feedback. I'm viewing this primarily as a split level summer booster (2nd floor) and for emergencies (to replace a portable single hose unit during power outages). In the winter, the central furnace does ok, so don't need a window heater and Eid rather fully seal the windows (Michigan).

Sounds like you got a defective unit. I don't have any issues with the app other than you have to re-login occasionally.

Anyone know of an equivalent style for horizontal (not up and down) sliding windows?

I did see the janky youtube setup with a normal window unit but figure the uninsulated plexi glass kind of defeats the purpose

*edited to clarify what sliding window I meant

went camping last summer(yes, I know, I know)... the guy next to me had a big tent that could sleep 10(or 12?). It was like a FEMA or army surplus tent. He had a portable air conditioner in the tent. The thing ran all night long. The owner of the campground didn't look too happy, since they didn't charge extra for electricity use. Smilie

I have Media unit and works fine.Got in March and it's been a blast.I have sliding window also live in high rise in city, the only issue for me was that my window is 46 inch and AC bracket is 42 max so I have to modify and extend the bracket to screw it down on the sides to secure.Overall is great,no issues with App,beeping doesn't bother me and very low noice.Design and smart compatibles for $350 is slick deal compared to similar of what LG have for $500 and up or even FRIGIDAIRE for $450.

Does it work for sliding windows ?
If it fits, you can always try to rig something up.
