Costco said it's an online only item
Maybe they don't carry at your store. I called my local location and they said they have 82 physically there.

You're using wood as a mat? You must be a bazillionaire. What's next, $100 bills as TP? /s 😆

Yeah plywood isn't a good option with prices this high unless willing to pay for it.
A sheet of 3/8" is about $45 locally. Viewed from the perspective of buying for use as a chair mat, that price doesn't seem out of line compared to the prices of some of the higher end chair mats.

That being said, it is highway robbery that a sheet of 3/8" plywood costs $45 these days.

I think that's about what I paid for mine. It's held up great and I've used the other half for other various projects around the house. I like the plywood option over glass alternatives as I don't have to worry about dropping something that might shatter it. Again, I am on a shaggy carpet so regular floor protectors would just sag and cradle over time.

I have a similar one. It's a great chair mat - works on "standard" chair wheels and the rollerblade style wheels on medium-plush carpet. I went with this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VWPGR7B

hey I have this. It's decent. However, it slips on carpet and I've to readjust every day. I have it tucked under a printer on one side and the table leg on the other side. It still slides on the carpet, piles up and drives me nuts. Anyway to prevent this?

I have tried mats with spikes and they too slide. This is crazy and I want to fix this.

Is there a way to check if your local store has then in stock other than making a trip there?
Yes, unless if you have some weird aversion to using your phone, calling the store yourself, and talking to a human.

You'll eventually wear through the finish of a hardwood or laminate floor.
These mats will damage hardwood more than just putting the proper wheels like these [amazon.com]on your office chair.

Small particles of sand gets under these, sticks to the bottom and rolling across the mat basically slowly sands the finish off the floor.

Have you ever seen what happens when you drop a small metal object on a glass mat?

dumb question: why do you need an office chair mat for a hardwood floor? isn't hardwood smooth enough for a wheeled chair to roll across?
Certain wheels can end up scratching the floor, to prevent that people use either chair mats or office chair caster wheels
