I thumbs-upped this post, so be kind with this comment, but...
I was excited about Control. The game and trailers looked really cool. So, I bought the game last Fall.
I was incredibly surprised and disappointed by what I purchased. Despite reading great reviews and enjoying the trailer, what I ended up with was a game that I found to be boring, generic, and meandering, and I found the dialog to be surprisingly bad. I pushed through and played it for many hours, but eventually, I gave up on it and moved on. I may come back to it, and it's certainly worth this price, but I'm just confused by all the praise this game has generated.
I had high hopes, and I'm not normally a snob, and maybe I just need to go back to it again. I'm just surprised that more people didn't feel this way.
Agreed. I was playing this on PS4 and just got so frustrated by the backtracking and generic repetitiveness. The story and dialog is meh. The telekinesis combat is cool but it gets old quick. The enemies switch between "barely worth your effort" to "insta death" Not to mention on PS4 has some of the longest load times I have ever encountered. I died a lot, over and over... and would get up and get a drink or go to bathroom and still loading.... perhaps the PC version solves that problem if you have a decent rig with SSD.
The way this game approaches missions is bizarre. There are tons of side missions that you probably would never even know about if you don't read a game guide. And you NEED those side missions to level up and enhance your gun + abilities. So definitely have a game guide handy while playing.
I probably put 20 hours in before I gave up in frustration. I cannot remember which area I got stuck on... one of the power generator missions maybe. Ugh, the endless backtracking.
Free is good. If you just love it, then the $7 season pass is probably worth another 5-10 hours.
Thumbs up from me for free, but I did not love this game.

Doesn't get much slicker than this. Control is an amazing game. You'll most likely want to get the dlc eventually because you will never want this game to end.
"The season pass includes two expansions "The Foundation: Expansion 1" and "AWE: Expansion 2". They added some new missions, stories and some new abilities. Both expansions are about to 5-6 hours but with collecting all of the collectibles and finding all hidden locations it might take 7-8 hours."

Still, worth the price here!
