It isn't. At $350 you're not paying much more than the $300 Oly set at Dick's and you're getting coated plates and a far better bar. FYI there are commercial plates/dumbbells that cost $10/lb and bars that cost upwards of $1k.

This was previously a front page deal at $500 - https://slickdeals.net/f/14984531-inspire-fitness-rubber-300-lb-olympic-weight-set-499-99

There is some excellent discussion about the weights there - additionally, this would have been a nice deal pre-covid for new coated weights delivered to your door.

If it helps anyone, I have a welder (weilder?) one from Sears which I am sure is the same in quality to low brands you get from Dicks or Walmart. It has grooves on the bat to "prevent slippage." I have used it on and off for lifts and after 5+years, I still get the silver paint and small particles in my hand. Plus as others have said, the weights feel uneven with the same plates. It was a 300lb set including the bar on a huge sale for $200.
If I was consistently lifting, I would definitely jump on this but I cannot justify the cost how I keep on quitting after lifting for a few months.

To add to my previous comment, these have metal centers that's flat plus no grooves on the bar. So these would be a lot better for me if I was to use them. Plus I wouldn't have to stack 5+ rubber mats and rugs to reduce the impact on deadlifts.
As for the price, you really have to take the $150 in consideration as well. So it is really $350, not $500 when compared to the other sets

As DIY wood working, I see a benefit of this pallet packing.
I think it depends on the trucking guys that deliver it, but mine didn't come on a pallet, they unloaded it all separately before they left the factory. It's about 8 small boxes and a 7.5 ft long thick cardboard tube.

Just ordered another set for some extra plates and will sell the bar (and possibly most smaller plates if I can get anything for them).

Get the $50 off coupon through costco chat then add another item (I got flip flops) to go over $500...you can return your filler item, I waited until after I got the $150 card just in case.

I got this last time it was FP and it combo'd at that time with $100 off orders over $500 with a small filler item. Its good set, barbell seems decent quality, weights are definitely adequate. One note- I got four tens and no fives, and Costco wanted me to ship the whole 300 lb back to replace the whole thing...so I was a little dissatisfied with Costco for this, feel like brick and mortar Costco would have been a lot more accomodating. This felt more like some dropship level customer service BS. But hey, it was net $300 after taxes.

BTW mine came in a wooden mini-crate, but it was some really lousy and seriously beat up wood haha.

Yeah I'd definitely recommend counting the plates and making sure they're all there if possible before the truck leaves, especially if you're in my boat and the trucking guys have 5 sets to deliver that day and they're all uncrated. (that said I'd prefer the extra tens over fives)

I'm no professional, but why on earth is this so expensive?
Dicks usually has the best deal on a similar weight set. 300 lbs and bar for well under Costco's price

Regarding returning the whole set, that's very common practice. So many times I have had to returns unassembled or partially assembled items when I find out that a screw was wrong or didn't fit Walmart, ikea all stores do it based on my experience. The plus here is for Costco is that Costco has never required me to repackage everything. A lot of times if something was broken, I took whatever packaging and glue it together and they were happy to take it back.

Yeah I got mine for $250 from Dick's last year and it seems fine. Went from benching 130 to 200 in 6 months while never doing more than 3 sets per day and 2-3 times per week. Not sure what a higher-quality bar would've had on my performance but I'm guessing likely nothing.

Any help would be appreicated:
Is the Costco CC generally a good card?
I have been looking for weights and this came at a perfect time, although I'd prefer a card with a good sign-on bonus. The cashback categories on this card looks pretty good though. Also, can I apply for the card now and purchase this now for $350? Or would I need to wait to get approved and receive the card to buy this set? TIA.
Apply in the store and you'll get a temporary card you can use online immediately, or at least that's how it worked when I signed up in 2018. I like the Costco card because there's no fees, decent cash back and no foreign transaction fees either which is rare in a card with no annual fees

What do you mean by the bar has no grooves there's no knurling on it at all?

How does this set compare to the $300 set from Dicks? Is this much better for $200 more?
Looks like this bar has a snap ring at the end, instead of a nut which I think the one from dick's has. Snap rings are better.

No you can not. The temp card can only be used for in store purchases - I called the membership desk trying to do this. He said you could buy gift cards and use them online same day but would not get promotion...
