I find them almost identical in price, but Southwest:
-Doesn't make me hate flying
-Is generally on time
-Plays few games with fares
-Lets me check 2 bags so I'm not carrying on a ton
-Is quick to offer refunds and credits for mistakes or inconvenience
Friday, June 11. For one day and one day only, Southwest Airlines is offering its cobranded cardmembers a generous opportunity to easily earn 5,000 Rapid Rewards points. As part of its 50th-anniversary celebration, Southwest is allowing all Rapid Rewards credit cardholders to earn 50 points per dollar spent on Southwest purchases. However, this promotion will only last for one day from Friday, June 11 at 12:00am ET to 11:59pm ET
Monday's announcement also includes an additional 155 options for more MAX 7 or MAX 8 aircraft from 2022 to 2029, depending on demand and growth opportunities throughout the decade. The announcement gives Southwest a total of:
349 MAX firm orders (200 MAX 7 and 149 MAX 8)
270 MAX options for MAX 7 or MAX 8 aircraft for years 2021 through 2031
Maybe it's because of where I live, but I've never seen a Southwest flight that is a better deal than what you can find with American/United/Delta.

Love field (DAL)....and didnt the Wright Amendment get repealed recently? I thought they could fly anywhere from DAL now.
Yup. That expired in 2014 but almost nothing is available that I've looked at non stop. Even dfw to cancun is 2hrs but no direct flights or Cabo is the same.
Maybe there's a rule for international that in unaware of but I've been looking at anything within 3hrs to take my kids but it's just too much of a hassle with their high prices.
I wouldn't fly with Southwest unless there are plenty of flights to your destination or you are extremely flexible with your flights. Southwest has been constantly changing their flight schedules the past few months. This leads to many calls to customer service because half the time you can't change it online.
I had one flight where I had a layover but because of the schedule change, the flight from the layover airport to my destination was cancelled. I couldn't change it online so I had to wait 2 hours to get customer service to get me on a new flight. Another flight I had was on a Sunday with no flights on Saturday. Due to the schedule changes, all the flights on Sunday were cancelled and changed to Saturday. Again, another 2 hours waiting for customer service to get a refund.
Thankfully, their customer service is great but it's just a pain dealing with all the schedule changes and waiting hours to get a hold of customer service. Southwest is flexible but it goes both ways right now. I would wait for a Southwest change flight deal (search the webs) if you are looking for a good Southwest deal. Else, I would book with any other airline. Even Allegiant is a better option since they don't change their flight schedules.

We had some massive schedule changes during COVID, and SWA customer service (via email to CEO Gary Kelly's office, not phone) was very responsive. But still, it was a major PITA to see you round trip nonstop flights turn into 2 legs and 3 legs each was, at more than double the travel time.
They were just trying to stay afloat, and they were pretty generous giving us vouchers for more than half the price of our flights. My neighbor is a captain and he said you should see schedule changes slow down dramatically now that things are surging. Things should be back to normal pretty soon, maybe even adding flights.
And yes, travel prices will probably suck for a while.
wow! $99 one way from fort lauderdale to cancun. was actually looking to book. i have a bunch of gift cards left over. wonder if its beneficial to book now. not sure if i need to change dates.
save your money and just stay in Ft. Lauderdale. hot as hell but everything is open. The Diplomat just re-opened. Love our governor
To this day, I've never had a worse experience with an airlines than Southwest. I have hundreds in credits that may never get used
If you fly enough, I think you are going to have a bad experience on almost every domestic airline. 90% of my domestic flights the past 10 years have been on southwest and I've never had a bad experience. I had much worse issues with United, delta, and even Alaska.
Southwest has been great for our family of 4. We always use the free checked baggage and re-up our free unlimited companion pass every 2 years (it's pretty easy to get the points needed for it) so one of our tickets is always comped.
I also appreciate that there is no charges to change a ticket, and you can cancel it up to 10 minutes before a flight if needed and get your points back. I don't know of another airline that offered that pre-Covid.
There is no business or first class though, so if you are a frequent business flyer I can see how it's not at appealing.
