Yes, either online or retail. If you do in person, make sure the card is not tampered in anyway. There have been several reports of this happening and it's not a pleasant experience.

There's a daily limit of $600 for online purchase and you can only place two orders for each combination (1x$100, 2x$50, or 4x$25). Each cancelled purchase will reduce your REDCard available credit temporarily. I made a one time payment on my REDcard balance. Thankfully it was posted in a day.
I've never shopped Apple directly (other than paying for some subscriptions). One thing I learned today is that you cannot have more than $2,000 in your apple account balance. I have two $50 gift cards I can't redeem at this time and will have to wait until they ship the iPad.
This has been a fun experience!

I bought some GC online and some at stores. I first bought a MacBook Air. I had to do a one-time payment and also get the rep to clear pending canceled charges to have some headroom in my credit limit. This drove my Apple Account balance to around $400. Then I bought some more GCs at a store to have enough in the account to buy an IPad and a pencil. So I never hit that $2000 ceiling you mentioned since my first purchase drove the balance to well below $2000.
When I was making the purchases, the balance looked right, but right now I have more in my account than I should at the end of the day. I know MBAir, the iPad, and the Pencil have not shipped. The free AirPods have not either.
I wonder if Apple moves the purchase amounts to some reserved bucket while the products are getting stenciled or processed. They don't offer a way to show a transaction history so it's really hard to tell. I think all my redemptions went through according to the screen I was looking at... Do you have any insight on this?
