If you're itching to buy, then pull the trigger on this. Pneumatic trim nailers go on sale regularly. Higher probability of grabbing this and later finding a slick deal on a trim nailer than waiting and finding both together. IMHO

I have this compressor. It's heavy, loud, and the gauges don't work. But I have framed a house, built a few decks, a couple of wood sheds, and done a bunch of trim work with it. It still runs strong. If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably opt for the Rigid.

If you don't need a high volume air compressor, do yourself a favor and get one of the quiet models. I can use mine day/night in my town home with the garage open.

I had one of these for going on 20 years, used it pretty much weekly, worked great all that time never one issue. Only complaint would be it is pretty loud but most this size are.

Have two of these, one in my work shop and the other in the garage with both being used 2-3 times a week. Purchased them refurbished here on SD for $60 ~8 years ago and would definitely recommend/buy again.

This. Never going back to the big noisy units. You can also get creative and get a portable tank to pipe in increasing your total volume. It will mess with the duty cycle but so will constantly blowing the air out of the small tank while it is working to fill it.

Good to know. I have an old 3gal harbor freight bought around 2006 that still works. It's only an emergency backup now. These all have finite lifespans like everything else. The issue here is when the tank explodes you will be in danger if you are near it. This is not even mentioning whatever you have around it like a car or wall.

I work on car alot, can anyone recommend the cheapest one that can run impact?

Or will this run impact?
This will run an impact just fine. As other have said, it's worth considering a quite model as an alternative. I picked up a California Air Tools 5.5 gallon 2.3cfm compressor a few years back when it was priced too good to pass up. 2.3 CFM is really low but I found my self not caring as much since the noise levels were just so much easier to accept vs my older good quality roofing compressor (4 gallon, 4 cfm).

Here is a Quipall that is similar to my CAT model ($120 refurb)
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Quipal...lerId=1186

Compared to the PC deal this costs about $50 more and has less stored air (about the same volume but lower pressure). The pump flow rates are similar but the noise levels are very different.

I would get the Quipall vs the PC but I have no experience with Quipall. I'm just assuming it to be OK and I want lower noise. As for driving an impact wrench, yes, either will do it for several bursts then the pump will turn on to refill the tank. In my experience that fill up happens as I move from one wheel to the next and has almost no impact on my work flow.

I do think this PC for the price is good but the extra money for quiet is something to think about. There are some California Air Tools videos on youtube trying to show off how much quieter they are. My first hand experience is those videos aren't misleading you. The difference really is that stark.

If I already have something to inflate tires, is this not worth getting for a home owner?
Not unless your hobby is inflating tires...7 days a week.
Besides, THIS THING IS LOUD!!!
( Your neighbors might object to your new-found "hobby". )

My California Air Tools compressor is very much LESS noisy than this thing.

It can also be used to blow out sprinkler lines for winter (it will take much longer than with a big compressor, but it will work).

I use nailers (brad/finish) with mine a lot for hobby woodworking, putting up trim and repairing the fence. Pneumatic nailers are both lighter and cheaper than battery powered ones.
Agreed. Bought a 6 Gallon Craftsman (just like this) to blow my lines out. Guarded I have a small property and only 6 zones, but it does the job. If I lived on my in-laws property that is a half acre and 14 zones, I'd say no dice. But, for smaller yards like mine, this thing pays for itself in no time. Throw in a wifi enabled controller (avoids having to manually turn the valves in the box) and it makes the job all the more easier.

Generally any brand that advertises as quiet is probably acceptable. The quietest reasonably price compressors are once like the California Air Tools models with the rather distinctive looking twin piston pumps with a motor in the middle.

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-Q...1001013970
https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-Q...1001014062

Basically all those compressors use the same "quiet" pump as the various CAT models (not all the same pump but same general design). Most are going to be similar in terms of noise. If you want to use a blow gun to clean things off I would suggest going with 4+ gallons. Something like a 2 gallon tank will run out really fast. If you are going to fill tires with the compressor plugged in any will be fine. If you want to fill up the tank then carry/roll it out to the car then again bigger tank will really help.

Too weak. For the same or less money, Harbor Freight and similar have higher capacity and HP. This is no deal at all.

Do you have a link? The cheapest comparable one I saw at Harbor Freight was for $99.97 (clearance model) with no free shipping. Also that one is rated at 125PSI vs 150PSI for the Porter-Cable one. The HF one does have 8-gallon capacity though plus more HP. However, the Porter-Cable one is $27.00 cheaper and shipped to my door in (2) days. It is how you want to look at it vs price. The Porter-Cable one is clearly cheaper by almost 1/3 the cost. Also if I am not mistaken you cannot apply most Harbor Freight coupons for clearance items.
