However, at the end of May 2021, multiple reviewers from India, where it has been released for couple of months now, confirmed that Acer has released new Bios and vBIOS which has boosted the TGP of all the Graphics card to 95W + 5W with Dynamic Boost.
I have actually checked the Acer's Driver download page for both 15.6 and 17.3" model and yes, the new BIOS and vBIOS are available for download.

For 17.3" Model AN517-41: BIOS 1.06 and VGA VBIOS 102a

Is it even worth going for a 3000 series laptop at this point in time? I'm not sure if it's just me but the deals don't really seem to be there yet.

That's because of semiconductor shortages affecting the prices. I would love for a RTX 3060 with comparable components be affordable around the $1K mark.

Probably not...especially when you can grab 6800m laptop for less than $300 more

It's generally difficult to find a laptop with a current-gen xx60 card for ~$1k. I distinctly recall Amazon had an Acer with a 1060 for Prime Day several years ago on sale for $999, but outside of Prime Day, Black Friday, etc., it's rare.

And again, current-gen. I'm not talking about clearance prices on last year's tech.

I think this particular laptop, while nice, is a bit overpriced.

While there are multiple 15.6" Laptops from Dell with Ryzen 5000H and RTX 3060 at cheaper price, there is not a single 17.3" laptop available at this price. The only option is Asus ROG Strix G17 version with 5800H and RTX 3060 and 144 Hz Panel, at $1400-$1500 but that is out of stock most of the time. Also, what most people don't know is that in both Strix G15 and G17, the basic 144 Hz 1080P Panel is one of the worst, similar to what Asus uses in their TYF A17 and A17 lineup with only 68% sRGB.
This Acer Nitro AN517 has one of the best 144 Hz panel, with 3 ms response time and 99% sRGB, nearly 70% sRGB and 74% DCI-P3 color gamut. Frankly, if you're looking for a 17.3" Ryzen based laptop, I don't think you won't find any cheaper than this one and the nearest competitor is at least $100-$150 costlier.

The consensus in the semicondutor (manufacturing) industry is that chip shortages will lastuntil well into 2022. Pat Gelsinger, the current Intel CEO, has gone on record stating thathe thinks the shortages will last for another 2 years.

Combine the shortages with high demand, supply shortages of all things PC hardware, high cost of transport (the cost of cargo shipping has increased >3x over the past year), price inflation of products/goods & increased labor costs are some factors contributing to higher consumer products/goods prices.

Link to a review of this laptop? I wonder if it would be worth canceling my Asus G17 Strix with Ryzen 5900hx and 3070 for this.

Thanks for the decent deal and insightful info!
I think in "... 99% sRGB, nearly 70% sRGB and 74% DCI-P3 color gamut..." you actually meant nearly 70% NTSC

Checkout the Dell g15 Ryzen deal. It has similar specs although smaller 15.6 display. It also has a 115w 3060 so should perform better than the Acer.

The RX 480 which came out a full four years ago is going for $600 (could be had a few years ago for $150) so I would say demand is insane for GPUs

I saw that deal. Thanks for suggesting it. I'll pass on it. I can wait for a little while until it hits $1k or lower.

Even last year it was hard to get a 4800h + 2060 combo under 1k, this year with the shortage, it would be even harder if I have to guess.
