Open Box M1 are actually cheaper. Appreciate the tip! Got one for $679.
You can get the 2nd gen 128GB for $599. However I think open box M1s are worth it for that extra RAM, M1 chip, and the new ultrawide front facing webcam.

Honestly, if you're not in a hurry and also need an AirPod I would wait for Apple to do their annual education sale during back to school event. Last year I got the 2020 11" 128 GB for $749 with free AirPods. Since I needed the AirPods anyways, which is worth ~$100 to me, it effectively made it $649 for a model that was only few months old at the time. I also had quite a bit of iTunes balance from previous sale deals that made it even cheaper. You should be able to do this in a few months so I think waiting and buy the M1 version is worth it. This week both BB and Target is doing the free $10 GC with $100 iTunes so you can load up on these to buy the M1 during summer. Not as good as $20 GC deal during BF 2020, but at least it's something.
BTW, currently have both 2020 and 2021, I think M1 w/ extra 2 GB RAM is worth it.
Isn't the new one with the M1 $150 more? Sams club has it on sale now. I mean these things are already over priced, why not just spend a bit more and get the latest and greatest? Probably get more for the trade in a few years down the road when you are done with it anyway.
If you are trying to save money… this is not the product to buy.

I've been using my iPad Pro 2020 (2nd gen) for almost a year now and don't see an immediate need to really upgrade to the 2021 (3rd gen)
