Edit: "Rental car or transfers (based on availability)".
Hotel can be booked at $300 night directly depending on dates. So You are still paying for the car rental in the package price. At best, you are getting the food credit for free.
We just did a similar deal that popped up on SD back in December for the Maui Ritz Carlton. It was incredible. Having the fees included in the package, a rental car (easy to confirm reservation a month or two out) was easy, the daily resort credit was fantastic, everything was taken care of. Would highly recommend.

Cost of rental car is included. It won't be "pricey"

While the cheapest room rate for that time is about $216/night, these are ocean view rooms that are $350-$400 during that time. So, $2,000+ would be the cost for five nights. Adding a car, which are currently ridiculously expensive, plus the credits, this seems like a good deal.

They initially put us in the oldest building that has three floor and no elevators. The rooms had a distinct odor which caused us to request to be moved. They were nice about it, and we got a better (albeit still old) room in a newer tower.
You cannot beat the location though.

When was this?
I just returned from Maui earlier this month. In preparing for the trip I found Hertz with discount code for $47/day, and National emerald aisle for $73 day. Still cheap compared to Turo and the other rates people talk about, but not an X3 for <$70. National rentals filled up 4-5 weeks before my trip.

I just did $377/day total for a 2 bedroom / 1,050 sq ft condo and car in Kihei in a VRBO with a solid view (part ocean, part west Maui). I far prefer extra space, free parking and a kitchen on my trips, so it worked very well for me.
