Since this promo is good until December, would be worthwhile to wait a bit and see if there'll be any HBO sales to stack this with, especially around Black Friday.

Here are the differences:
The Ad plan: commercials, no same-day releases, HD quality vs. 4k, and you're unable to download movies for offline viewing.

My Amex offers expiration is 12/14/21.

I and many of the folks I know have recently or are about to cancel Netflix after years of continuous subscription. More people are realizing it's no longer the value it once was.

Expected this is gonna happen! Cord cutting was a bogus , eventually you will end up with 2-3 streaming devices , 5-6 subscriptions ! Still one short to watch your favorite game, movie, live show or an episode ..
Believe me. I will be picking an choosing between services and NOT having all at once. Been doing that for years. I pay $2 month for Hulu and $14 for Netflix and that's only because I have a kid and a girlfriend that watch at the same time. If the girlfriend goes I'm back to the $10 plan. I haven't paid cable prices in over 10 years and don't plan to any time soon!

So what exactly has ads? The movies? It just sounds so oxymoronic for HBO to have ads at all! Seriously $100 isn't enough

13,000+ hours entertainment
All of your HBO favorites
New exclusive programming (Max Originals)
Select favorites from the iconic brands of Warner Bros., DC, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Turner Classic Movies, and much more
A robust selection of acquired series and movies
What's different?
Cost
Ad-Free is $14.99/month or $149.99/year
With Ads is $9.99/month or $99.99/year
Ads
Ad-Free doesn't have commercials during shows and movies
With Ads has commercials before and during select shows and movies
What's only available with the Ad-Free plan?
Warner Bros. 2021 movie premieres. Stream new Warner Bros. 2021 premieres the same day as theaters.
Downloads. You can download shows and movies to watch when you're offline.
4K UHD. Stream select movies in 4K UHD.

Nice offer and just in time for renewal. I had used the $7 off coupon the last time on AmEx for a 6 months subscription. I think it expires in July. The tax on subscription really eats up the AmEx savings though.

I believe so, too... Actually to me none of the mainstream streaming services are worth the price personally. Of course this is always subjective. I keep Amazon Prime definitely not due to Prime Video but mainly for quick shipping and Prime-member only discounts.

Right now the only streaming I'm paying for is Crunchyroll and it's only <$7 after AMEX Offers..
I don't sub, but I think the best value (outside of Amazon Prime) is Disney Plus.
It costs $8 a month or $80 per year in the US.
It comes with Disney, Hulu, and ESPN+.

With Netflix, you just get Netflix.

How bad are the ads? Hulu with ads is unwatchable. Is HBO the same?
Four minutes of ads per hour.

I have this for free and it's not worth more than $50 a year at best.
It's well worth it if you've never watched much HBO. The HBO library of TV shows is possibly the best in the industry. A few hits recently, but a lot of the Max specific shows have definitely been weak though, so I agree it becomes far less worth it if you've already watched the majority of HBO's must watch classics.

I wonder if they'll continue that next year. Same day movie premiere alone is definitely worth the extra $50. My current sub expires at end of August. Decisions Decisions
